Stay Away From These Frauds
We have moved 9 times and once from the United States to Germany and back and we have never experienced such an unprofessional, misleading group of hacks in my adult life. We made the huge mistake of trusting these amateurs with a move halfway across the country. We originally contacted them and Mitch was our Point of Contact. We kept getting this load of crap about how they were at the top of the Forbes list. When it came time to go over our household goods and begin the inventory of what needed to be moved, everything was done over the phone. No one came to our home and physically checked or took photos of our property. We asked about someone coming to our home and actually taking an inventory and we were told everything is over the phone now. The original estimate was for approx $9300. We were told that 4-7 days prior to the move, we would get a call to verify what needed to be moved. When the second call came in, my wife stayed on the phone with Adrienne for over an hour walking around the house and telling her what needed to be moved. As she did with Mitch, she provided measurements. We actually sold some items to the people that bought our home and the estimate went to over $11,000! This after we had actually sold items and those items would not be moved. Items specifically identified to be moved were a 9' ladder, a 20' extension ladder, a 6'x3' work bench, tool boxes and tables from the back porch, to name just a few. The morning of the actual move, we were told the truck would be at our home between 9:00 & 11:00AM. The truck didn't arrive until 11:30AM. The driver immediately walked through our home and gave us the impression that the truck was too small and that they wouldn't be able to load all of our household goods! He then told us that the estimate to move would now be $13,500! It went from $9300 to over $13,500 in less than a week! Since the truck was dispatched from over 3 hours away, there was no way to get a bigger truck. We were furious and kept asking if all of our stuff would fit on the truck. Calls were made to the local moving company, Panthers Moving & Storage out of Austin, Texas. 8 hours later, I was told to come out to the garage. They told me they didn't have enough room on the truck and we had to leave a number of our personal items. We had to leave a 9' ladder, 20' extension ladder, a work bench, a 6' metal locker used to store power tools and supplies, a leaf blower, edge trimmer, 50' garden hose, 100' garden hose, two tables on the back porch, tool box, power cords and other assorted items. The work bench was an heirloom that was used by my father in law when he owned a small business machine repair shop. My wife actually cried because we simply had no other choice! Can you imagine having to simply leave your personal items because the moving company didn't bring the right equipment? We live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and the moving company that Interstate used to move us was from Austin, TX...over 3 hours away. They couldn't find a moving company in the DFW area? We found out later that the local moving company Interstate used to move us had terrible reviews and is under investigation! I immediately tried to get in touch with Mitch and complain because he was our initial point of contact. Instead, I got other people from Interstate that just made excuses and the Compliance Manager actually told me it was my fault that we left some personal items behind because it was my responsibility what goes on the truck and what does not! They said they would "escalate" this situation and as of three weeks later...nothing has been done. This was a complete sham and these people cannot and must not be trusted. They are moving brokers. All they do is find the cheapest local mover and send them to your home. No one visited our home. No one took pictures. When we confronted them, they placed further blame on the Department of Transportation. They brag about top service and being on the Forbes list and then screw you to the wall. They are all about protecting themselves. After we had gone through the shock of having to leave so many items behind, my wife walked through our kitchen and started to open drawers to see if they had packed our kitchen utensils and other kitchen cooking items and she found four drawers that were untouched. We had to find a plastic garbage bag and dump knives, forks, spoons and dozens of other kitchen cooking items. This company is such a sham and they absolutely will not take accountability for their actions or the actions of the company they contracted with to pack us. Please stay away from them. Research other movers! Read reviews and stay away from Interstate! They are out of Florida. We will probably not receive any satisfaction for the trauma we had to endure and the extra $4000 they stuck us with because of their incompetence. DO NOT USE INTERSTATE!!!
