Device works as it should. Build quality is fine for price. Sound quality with MC should be better. Sound is a bit "thin". I use balanced connection to PASS X1 preamplifier.

I ordered a Hip Dac 3 from Amazon in November 2024, and by spring, it started to have connection difficulties with my iPhone. By April 2025, it had stopped working altogether. The product seems to be a beta product for the public to test. I am seeking to get it repaired to give it away. I have seen many users encounter issues recently, and reviewers have complained about the weak connection. This seems to be a problem with portable DACs that work well for a while and then fail. The quality of cables is often poor and not strong enough either. I will look for a DAP player instead, as I do not believe the technology or quality is adequate for use with phones. I am currently in ongoing discussions with the support line and hope to get it repaired or replaced in due course. But this is not a product that is suitable for its purpose.

Hipdac3 has given me a lot of joy. I use it in a balanced mode. This is an excellent product that meets expectations and more. The service is spot on as well.

Audio quality 10/10 even when using it with AAC.
Connectivity 7/10 sometimes even with the new software update, the device will have its glitches.
Mic 2/10 will sound very low and will not work from time to time; I use mine for work to call vendors and take in service calls. Not the best. Better off with phone mic.

But this device excels at music listening. That’s what we are here for. In that aspect is great.

Comfort 9/10. Most of the times I can’t even feel it.

Battery life 15/10 nothing can compete with it.

Came in quality packaging, and does more than I expected. It’s a little bigger than I hoped, but overall it’s a nice piece of premium equipment.

And the experience I had with iFi was great. There was quite a mixup in the order and they sorted it out. Everything is just fine now.

Through a combination of mine and the Post Office's negligence, my shipment was delivered to the wrong address.

iFi didn't even drag me through any kind of escalation process, they just promptly sent out a replacement. I was blown away.

And the equipment quality is solid!! I've been using my Hip-DAC for months now with zero issues.

My review is about the Ifi Zen streamer. I have not tried any other Ifi product. First, the Ifi Streaming app, which is essential for setting up their streamer, is terrible. Does not recognize my streamer rendering it useless. I bought a high end streamer that is amazing (Innuos) and gave the Ifi to a friend. He was so exasperated trying to use it he brought it back yesterday. He said it never stayed connected long and had to be repeatedly reset. I could not get connected at all. I’m throwing it away.

Lost the casing for my iDefender, and iFi went above and beyond by sending me a spare case. Didn't have to, but they did—very happy! Fantastic customer service.

I would like to give a shout out to Liam. I've had a ZenStream since June of '22. It's been solid as a rock (once I got past the initial setup nuttiness.) I use it to primarily stream Tidal via Roon. It's connected to a ZenDac Signature V2. I've been very happy with its sound & performance.
Last week, I decided to go into the settings and turn off MQA, since Tidal no longer streams that format.
I soon as I hit Save, all holy hell broke loose. Roon couldn't see it anymore, and after hours of cursing and trying EVERYTHING, I gave up and opened a ticket.
THE VERY NEXT DAY, i got a response from Liam, with a link to a software/firmware/video package that would turn it into a virgin and start from scratch.
At first, it looked daunting, but I took my time (an hour?) followed the video, pausing it here & there so I could perform each task IN ORDER....finished...crossed my fingers...and PRESTO, I have a working ZenStream!

TWO NOTES: One of the last instructions is to Check For Updates. This loaded up the latest fw version from Nov '24. I'm assuming that this is CRITICAL.
Also, when it came back and was up and running, it didn't matter that I configured the output for usb, I could hear nothing. I told Liam, and the (very quick) fix was to go into Roon, and in Audio Setup, click on the ZS and bring up an output config and change it from the spdif default.

All in all, I'm very pleased with service from Ifi, and will remain a happy customer.

The ifi zen stream is a great streaming device! Combine it with a good power supply, a proper dac with a good power supply and i think u get awesome value for the money! The only reason i did not give 5 stars is that i own it since a short period after it was released. From the moment i had it there were some problems with it and it took the guys at ifi a long time to get it fixed, in the end my unit froze and got stuck so i had to send it for repair! But i have to say there customer support is one of the best i have seen in years! After having good friendly contact with them and sending my device for repair i got it back in less than 1 week! A few weeks later i encountered more issues with my ifi so i wrote a bad review here and i am really sorry for that because it was not the ifi zen that let me down. The linear power supply had a defect not the ifi zen stream! If u will buy the zen stream i can promise u that you will not regret! Ifi makes really great sounding, innovative devices with a outstanding quality feel!
