This feels like nothing more than a profit-driven scheme.
Everyone knows that to reliably pass this exam, you’re expected to pay for a mentor who shows you exactly how to structure the written portion. It’s a convenient way to increase revenue—candidates already pay a high fee to take the test, and then must pay even more for mentoring to have a real chance at succeeding.

What credible institution requires test-takers to sign a declaration stating they cannot request a corrected copy of their exam or an explanation of their grade? If the process were truly fair and transparent, there should be no issue with providing that information—unless the goal is to push people into retaking the exam for additional profit.

Furthermore, what kind of organisation makes exam results disappear after two years, as if the test never happened? I understand that results may expire, but that doesn’t justify refusing to acknowledge that the exam was taken or that a grade was earned. That information is factual and was paid for.

Unless, of course, the intention is to conveniently encourage people to pay to sit the exam again.

Never take Ielts Online!
They have no customer support for IELTs Online. You cannot get any help if you are taking an online exam. Rescheduling is not available. There is no support phone number for online. Regarding an email for the online exam, they never reply. Imagine you have a problem in the exam day. NO SUPPORT!

El pasado 15 de abril tenía programado mi examen IELTS Online con el British Council. A pesar de conectarme puntualmente y seguir todas las instrucciones, el sistema nunca me permitió acceder al examen. Estuve conectado durante todo el rango horario asignado, pero la plataforma simplemente no me dio opción de iniciar. Más tarde, apareció un mensaje indicando que ya era demasiado tarde, sin haberme dado siquiera una oportunidad de empezar.

Lo peor fue la atención al cliente: tras escribirles y explicar lo sucedido, su respuesta fue completamente impersonal, responsabilizándome a mí, a pesar de que el fallo fue claramente técnico. No se me ofreció ni reprogramación ni reembolso. Me sugirieron simplemente “reservar y pagar otro examen”.

Lamentablemente, no soy el único con una experiencia parecida. El sistema online es confuso (mezcla de formatos AM/PM y UTC/CEST) y no fiable. Para un examen tan importante y costoso, esperaba más seriedad, empatía y soluciones.

Mi recomendación: evita el IELTS Online y, si puedes, realiza el examen en un centro físico. Y sobre todo, asegúrate de documentar todo con capturas, porque si algo falla, no se hacen responsables.

I had a highly frustrating and disappointing experience with the IELTS Online test, largely due to the unreliable Inspera browser. Despite preparing extensively for this important exam, the technical issues I encountered not only disrupted the test but also put my application at ETH Zürich in jeopardy due to strict deadlines.

Here’s what went wrong:
1. Unjustified Technical Faults: The Inspera browser reported insufficient RAM, even though my system has 8 GB of installed RAM and all other applications were closed. This was not only inaccurate but wasted valuable time.
2. Application Crashes: The browser shut down unexpectedly while I was in the waiting room, forcing a reschedule and delaying the process.
3. Audio Issues: Despite passing all equipment checks, I couldn’t hear the examiner in the waiting room. I had to exit the application, only for the issue to occur again in subsequent attempts.
4. Examiner Disconnect: After several failed attempts, the examiner ended the session entirely, leaving me unable to complete my test.

The lack of proper technical infrastructure, combined with the absence of immediate support to resolve these issues, has caused immense stress. I am now at risk of missing the application deadline for ETH Zürich.

Given the premium cost of the IELTS Online test, this level of service is unacceptable. The platform and its tools should be robust and reliable, especially for high-stakes exams. I am also appalled by the lack of compensation or expedited support for such a critical situation.

I cannot recommend the IELTS Online test to anyone. This experience has been both a financial and emotional burden.

I recently had the unfortunate experience of using IELTS Online. Regrettably, I can’t recommend this company based on my interaction with them.

The overall professionalism of IELTS left much to be desired. From the initial communication, their approach lacked the necessary gravitas. It felt as though I was dealing with amateurs, rather than experts in the field. Their customer service was nothing short of disappointing. Responses were slow, and when I did receive them, they were vague and unhelpful. It’s essential for such a company to be responsive and supportive, especially when clients have questions or concerns. During the assessment process, I interacted with several of their staff members. Unfortunately, their level of competence was severely lacking. Their English speaking skills were alarmingly poor, and they seemed ill-prepared to address technical issues. As a result, my confidence in their testing procedures plummeted. Furthermore, I found it disturbing how suspicious they seemed. It’s as though they don’t trust their own conditions for the online test.

IELTS claims to provide accurate assessments to determine their clients proficiency in English. However, my experience suggests otherwise. Their testing methods don’t align with the intended purpose, raising doubts about the validity and reliability of their assessments.

The cost of their product was shockingly high. For the quality of their services, it was unjustifiable. I excepted excellence at the premium price point, but unfortunately, IELTS failed to deliver. Their terms and conditions are cunningly crafted to maximise profits at the expense of unsuspecting customers, especially their scoundrelly refund policy.

In summary, IELTS falls short on multiple fronts. Their unprofessionalism, subpar customer service and questionable practices makes them an unreliable choice for anyone seeking accurate digital assessments of their English level. I recommend exploring alternative testing providers that prioritise transparency, accountability, competence and fair pricing.

Signed up for an IELTS academic online for my study abroad. Date of my speaking exam was January 12th at 10 am. Tried logging in 45 prior with two laptops and the program didn't work, wasn't able to take the exam. Got a new date at 5pm the same day, wasn't asked if the new time was acceptable for me, so it was basically be there or be square. Tried logging in an hour before with 3 devices, after an hour it finally worked, but the examiners audio was not working properly, so she had to cancel the exam. Was given another exam date, the same day at 7 pm, was again not asked if the time was okay with me, again 45 minutes of logging in and it finally worked. Had to cancel my all of my appointments last minute that day, because otherwise I wouldn't have been able to do my speaking exam. The next day my written exam was at 2 am, since IELTS didn't specify on their website if the exam takes place at 2 am or pm. Tried changing the date prior, since the confirmation email finally confirmed that the exam was in fact, at 2 am. Rescheduling was not an option for IELTS. Got up at 1 am, since I wanted to make sure that the program worked, my desk was clear and I was sitting in the kitchen, with everyone in my apartment asleep and no one in the room with me. Examiner told me I was not allowed to sit in an open space and asked if it was possible for me to move to another room. Since I share my bedroom and it was 2 am that was not an option. Examiner told me in that case she has to cancel the exam and I will probably get a new date. Emailed IELTS, didn't get a new date, so 260€ went down the drain. Wasted 1 day for the speaking, no apology whatsoever and got my written exam cancelled, because I was sitting in an "open" space, meaning the kitchen, even though no one was in the room with me.

Horrible experience. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS TEST. I did it twice. I did not get even to the test and I did not receive any reimbursement. Hopefully, you will see this before booking your test (I did not).

They just want to make money, making people repeat the test a lot of times to get scores in skills that even English’s people could not get. Writing is ridículos, you need to be a professional writer to have a good score, I’m not a good writer in my own language, how I could be in another, you do not get the real reason why you have the score, just a generic one. Test centres are a joke, with staffs that speak less English than the test takers. Complete disappointed because we need to have this to work here in specific areas, and test does not have this propose, they just want money. Not even have the retake 1 skill only, that is already available in a lot of countries, but not on the most important, England. Sad to need to have this test, I’m sure that I was much better on my writing at the second time, but still getting the same score, that is frustrating.

I think the exam is rubbish ,a way of making money and doesn’t reflect in any ways your level of English .It’s an exam that you have to study for (regardless of your English level) and write the structures that they want ..it will be interesting to see some sort of report /research of how many “native” speakers will pass this exam if having to complete it !!A total waste of money!!! I do understand that if you wish to live or work in an English speaking country your skills should be assessed but this exam is not fit for purpose …in my view .

It's a total scam to try and make as much money out of you as possible.
Save it, and try PTE instead.

Only giving one star as can’t give none.My husband has been waiting 2 months on results which we need for the next step in our visa process. About 3 days after the exam they emailed saying they were withholding his results and opening an investigation and would he like to comment on his test scores. He emailed back telling them he couldn’t comment on something he didn’t know !! There was no reply.All sounded very serious but the little contact for information we managed to have with IELTS on FB messenger says it will be a routine quality control thing and to contact the test centre. Their own emails tell you not to do that as the test centre won’t have your results and on calling the British Council they told us the same thing , that IELTS won’t tell them anything either and we should wait 3 months. These people know how time sensitive these tests are for visa applications but they just ignore messages. They have blocked me from commenting on FB.
No one else would get away with taking £155 for a service which they didn’t provide then shutting you down when you ask for your results
Shocking. We have now had to book with another provider and wish we’d done that in the first place as they’ll give the results the same day
I would never recommend IELTS

I wish I could give 0 stars. I booked my exam in time to get results for my University application in January. After confirmation they sent me a payment link which I paid straight away but still no confirmation of the exam. After 4 days had another payment reminder and they said they cancel the exam the day after if I would not pay. In fear of loosing my place in December I paid again and yet the day after (Sunday morning) my exam as cancelled. Luckily the system allowed me to rebook on the same place yet it was really stressful! After I contacted them they issued a refund for the second payment BUT after about 4 days later after a voice message stated that they cancelled my exam because of some technical issues, which sounds total BS. End of the story is after two weeks of hassle I have been left high and dry, no exam and very good chances that not going to be able to do the English exam on time for my application! The communication is very vague, non apologetic at all! I recommend just go for The Pearson test as that one available online unless IELTS, even though they advertise! In my opinion it is misleading and far from honest customer service!!

Have been waiting for my refund for over 4 months now. Called the centre in November and was told that I’m gonna be refunded by the end of the month. It’s December now and I still haven’t received my refund.

The english tutors at IELTS UK were very helpful and provided great tips and strategies that guided me to better my English skills. My teacher, Oakley, was patient and very knowledgable. He was also fun and he gave me several resources that I used as review materials. Over all, I had a wonderful experience with IELTS UK!

Before I'll take my exam, I wanna say thank you to the IELTS-U.K. for guiding me in my upcoming exam. The time has finally arrived. Whatever the result maybe, I will be always thankful that Ielts-U.K. was created! You're a big help to those people like me who can't afford to enrol in a review center and doesn't have the free time to go to classes everyday!
