We’re sharing our experience in the hope that it prevents others from going through what we have.

Earlier this year, we decided to proceed with a Hup! Home extension — a product owned by Ultraframe and promoted via the Hup! Homes website.

We were drawn in by the speed, efficiency and design — and the system’s endorsement by a well known architect on TV, further reinforced our confidence.

We chose to work with AB Design & Build, the only builder listed on the Hup! Homes website as covering our area. Initial engagement with Stuart (the owner) was promising — he was responsive and confident, and we even spoke with a current client as part of our due diligence.

However, after paying a £17,000+ deposit, the experience deteriorated:

* Communication dropped
* Work schedules slipped
* Materials for the build were left on our lawn for over 5 weeks, even though Ultraframe confirmed they should only be exposed for a maximum of 48 hours. We later learned AB Design & Build hadn’t even paid for the materials, despite receiving our deposit.

The foundation wall built by his team had to be demolished, as confirmed by Building Control, who found it non-compliant with building standards.

And most recently, we discovered a shared water pipe had been concreted over without a lintel, breaching Building Regs (Approved Document Part H). Further to this, we were forced to pay an additional £6,000 to undo the work that had been done and discovered one of the said pipes was cracked and full of concrete.

Despite persistent follow-ups, we’ve only received a partial refund, we remain out of pocket, and now face an additional £28,000 in unplanned costs to bring the project back on track.

That trust has come at a major financial and emotional cost. We trusted this builder because he was listed directly on the Hup! Home website. That listing gave us confidence — and it has cost us dearly.

We can't comment on the HUP extension itself as this experience put us off, especially as Ultraframe wouldn't take any responsibility, even though they listed him as an installer on their website. We would never have come across AB Design & Build (they're a good 45 minutes drive from our home) had it not been for finding the company listed by Ultraframe.

If you're considering a HUP extension, please learn from our experience and do your own thorough vetting.

Not only is it an excellent and innovative product the Service and attention to detail from the team at Ultraframe is second to none. The support they offer with thier products is excellent, and when it comes to HUP! in Scotland we couldn't ask for better.

We are so delighted with the transformation of our old conservatory into a modern extension using hup. It took just a few days to build the main structure and the whole thing was finished and plastered etc in 2 weeks. We opened the space into our kitchen by removing the old doors and now have a gorgeous, open plan modern space that we live in all the time. Can't recommend hup enough!

We had an extension built on our home using hup! and it was a fantastic experience and has totally transformed our home. Our full-width extension was built and watertight in only 4 days ready for the electrician and to be plastered and finished internally. The speed of the build was very important to us as we wanted as little disruption to our family life as possible and with hup! this is what we got.

So glad we chose Hup system we had a conservatory knocked down and replaced with Hup system never looked back ! It went up in no time but was solid and we absolutely love our new space it’s cosy and looks fantastic so many pluses it’s a win win !

The HUP wall and base system is simply fantastic. We’ve completed many installations, and every customer has been delighted with the results. The system is incredibly quick, creates very little mess, and requires almost no drying time.

We went with the hup! system for our extension and I’m so glad we did. The whole thing went up so quickly compared to a normal build barely any mess or disruption. The finished space looks amazing, feels really solid and cosy, and has completely changed how we use our home. Everyone who’s seen it has been impressed, and I still can’t believe how fast it was all done. Would definitely recommend the hup! system to anyone thinking about adding some extra space. We got to see a hup! extension on display at the 5 Star Windows and Conservatories showroom in Kidderminster. They were our closest builder. Would also recommend them!

We’ve completed several HUP installations this year, and they’re becoming increasingly popular. One of the big advantages is the design flexibility: slimmer pillars, shaped walls, and more creative layouts that simply aren’t possible with traditional builds.
Another benefit is that HUP provides full structural calculations for every design. This not only saves our customers the cost of a structural engineer but also removes the delays and inconvenience that often come with that process.
Our customers also appreciate the speed of the build and the increased internal floor space compared to conventional methods. For all these reasons, we would highly recommend HUP as a modern, efficient, and innovative alternative to traditional construction.

As a builder, we came across HUP! late last year, saw it as a new way forward from a traditional build concept and became approved installers for HUP. We are currently building our 5th HUP extension. We have to say the product quality is excellent, and likewise, are the timescales from order to delivery. If we have any questions or complications regarding the erection process the HUP technical team are helpful, very knowledgeable and on hand to give advice when needed. Our HUP build customers have been pleasantly surprised by the speed and efficiency of the whole process. Obviously, part of this is due to our own professionalism. We are looking forward to a long relationship with HUP moving forward through the coming years.

hup! deliver fast, fit great and so warm and cosy!!

Just over a year ago we transformed our old conservatory into a HUP! extension and we honestly couldn’t be more delighted. What used to be an underused space is now a warm, comfortable, and stylish room that feels like a natural part of the house all year round. Budget was a huge factor for us, and the cost certainty with HUP! gave us total peace of mind — we knew exactly what we were paying with no hidden surprises, and we stayed on budget from start to finish. The build was quick, the quality is outstanding, and the whole process was far less stressful than we ever imagined. We now have the extra living space we always dreamed of and use it every single day. Highly recommend HUP! to anyone thinking of upgrading their conservatory or adding an extension.

We are absolutely devastated and heartbroken by our experience with Ultraframe/Hup! and their recommended installer xxx (name removed at hups request). What began as an exciting project to replace our old conservatory with a modern Hup! extension has turned into a financial and emotional nightmare. We’ve lost tens of thousands of pounds and been left with an unfinished, unsafe building site attached to our home — and a back garden that’s been destroyed.

We found xxx (name removed at hups request) through Hup!/ Ultraframe’s “Find an Installer” tool, whereby customers input their information and Hup/Ultraframe pass the details onto one of their installers. We trusted (as many would) that this meant he was vetted, reputable, and aligned with the promises made in Hup!’s marketing and social media such as: “local, reliable, Hup! approved” builders, watertight builds in five days, a seamless single-supplier model, and energy efficiency “five times better than the average home.”

The reality couldn’t have been more different.

From the start, XXX was unreliable. His team was frequently absent and he ultimately vanished after being paid 90% of our total build costs. He mismeasured the build and then disappeared entirely — ignoring all contact, including legal letters. His former team told us he had changed address without informing us, and it appears he hasn’t even updated his company details and accounts with Companies House.

Despite Hup!/Ultraframe being fully aware that XXX had abandoned the project — and that we had already paid him in full — we were shocked to receive a solicitor’s letter on their behalf stating that he hadn’t paid them for the Hup! materials. The very next working day, we contacted the solicitors to explain the situation. Regardless, within 4 days we were sent debt collectors to our home to demand payment — from us. Even though we had already paid.

Hup!/Ultraframe admitted that XXX along with their other builders are not actually “approved” — and that they do not vet the installers they refer onto their customers on their website. This completely contradicts their advertising and public messaging. Throughout this ordeal, their support was minimal at best. It took two months for the technical team to amend the mis measurement issue. They referred us onto two other installers with minimal handover to the installer of the mis-measurement problem - one of whom did not respond and had little availability. The other installer they connected us with quoted £1,000 per day plus travel costs just to assess whether the existing materials were usable — a cost we simply could not afford, especially on top of what we’d already paid or to start again they wanted us to pay the same as the original build costs and that was with Hup/Ultraframe's supposed 'Preferential Discounts.'

Throughout dealing with them since April Hup!/Ultraframe refused to take accountability, and left us with no realistic or affordable way to finish the project.

Hup!/Ultraframe may promote their system via glossy ads and celebrity endorsements (such as XXX from BBC’s Your Home Made Perfect), but when things go wrong, there is no safety net, no accountability, and no real customer protection.

After nearly nine months with Hup! materials in our garden — ruining the grass underneath — we had no choice but to ask Hup!/Ultraframe to come and remove them, just to avoid having to pay even more to dispose of it ourselves.

This ordeal has had a devastating impact on our finances, our health, and our family life. We’ve lost tens of thousands of pounds, had to take time off work due to stress, and pay for storage for a kitchen we still cannot install. This isn’t just a failed home improvement — it’s trauma.

The Hup!/Ultraframe model — which involves referring customers to unvetted third-party installers while taking no responsibility when things go wrong — feels not only flawed, but potentially misleading under consumer protection regulations.

Please be warned: this is not the “fast, energy-efficient, one-supplier” solution it claims to be. Do your due diligence. And think very carefully before placing your trust in Hup!/Ultraframe, the Hup! system, or their “Find an Installer” tool.

We are beyond happy with our HUP extension. We chose this to replace a 20 year old traditional conservatory. We probably could have used for around 3 months a year due to it being very poorly insulated. After around a year trying to get plans finalised by traditional building methods and finally being told the extension would not be built to our initial plan s and also the cost had gone beyond our comfortable budget we then found Ultraframe on line and looked into their extensions. Wow what difference - they put us intouch with one of their building companies close to our location. From the initial consultation to the final handing over the company was fantastic. They were great workers and supplied us exactly what we had visualised initially. The HUP extension came to site exactly as and when quoted, no mess or waste. From damp proof the extension was up and water tight in four days with no disruption. The final results weee simply stunning - we had more room than a traditional build due to the thickness of the walls, we managed to get an extra bonus of a downstairs toilet in the plan. The extension is extremely light inside with all the glass panels. Over the winter we have found that it is comfortable enough to use without any extra heating and hopefully due to the insulation it will stay cool in summer. I would be more than happy to recommend HUP and ultraframe to anyone wanting this type of extension.
