SCAM - Don't Believe Them When They Tell You Your Co-Pay
Alma tells you your therapist is in-network and your copay is $30–$50. You believe them—why wouldn't you? They ran an "eligibility check." So you start therapy, you open up to someone, you start to trust them. Then the email comes: the estimate was "wrong," and now you owe hundreds of dollars in back charges for sessions you already had.
That's not a mistake. That's the business model. Quote a number people can afford, wait until they're emotionally invested and unwilling to walk away, then send the real bill. They target people who are anxious, depressed, and desperate for help—the exact people least equipped to fight a surprise charge—because they know those people will pay rather than abandon a provider they've come to rely on.
And fighting back is by design nearly impossible. No phone number. Just an email queue where you get passed between staff who make you re-explain everything from zero and then go silent. The complaints are everywhere and they're identical: confirmed low copay, surprise bill months later, no accountability.
Telling a vulnerable person "your care costs $30" and then billing them $300 after the fact isn't incompetence. It's predatory, and it's sick. Stay away.
Efficient service
It was easy to find a provider for my needs and scheduling was easy. They make the billing process very easy. The provider is very thorough and carefully assessed me before prescribing a medication.
My work insurance covered the services…
My work insurance covered the services entirely, but after I lost my job I knew I would lose the insurance so before I lost the insurance i told the provider I would be seeing a different provider I can pay out of pocket because I lost my insurance, they said okay but over 2 months later they sent me an invoice for 150$ it’s not my fault they don’t settle there payments at least at the end of month, I didn’t lose the insurance for awhile even after I ended the job they had plenty of time to charge my Insurance I shouldn’t have to pay for the clinic Alma partners with negligence, but yeah trying to contact someone from Alma is impossible, so even have insurance if you have problem, Alma is unreachable. so something you should know.
Update: they replied too me and as it stands seems like the problem was resolved.
Useless
The "help" I received was just basic information I have already googled before. I was over-prescribed medication and sent on my way. Expensive and useless.

Easy to use
I like the scheduling process & text reminders from Alma. Also the billing and receipts are easy to track at the end of the year when doing taxes.

Loved my therapist for 4 sessions. Then she and Alma completely ghosted me. I have no idea what happened or what I was billed. I cannot get any response from the company.

Therapist completely ghosted me out of the blue and service team refused to give any explanations. Awful service would not recommend. It has been almost 2 months now and I have received no clarification or attempts at support despite submitting multiple customer support tickets. My therapist also mentioned being booked with 8+ clients back to back so it sounds like a case of burnout or overwork.
Alma has been great!
There are a lot of therapy sites. Alma is simple to use and connects me with my therapist on the things I need most. Alma makes managing my payments painless. I am really glad I found Alma!

The website was easy to navigate and really accelerated being able to find the right counselor for me. Payment is super easy to set up and I love the reminders and payment confirmations along with the appointments. Highly, highly recommend!

Thanks to Jamilla Herron and Alma I’ll never consider you again! $85 charged for a no shoe Jamilla knew shouldn’t have occurred but I guess she wanted free time with free pay on my dime so she set me up at 5pm knowing I worked until 4:30 central.
Alma worked great for me
Came here to leave a positive review and was surprised to see so much negativity. A friend introduced me to Alma, and I actually know several people (like, upwards of 10!!) who use it. We’ve all had great experiences. I’ve had no issues with billing or insurance, and my therapist has been excellent so far.
It seems like some of the negative experiences may come from people connecting with the wrong therapist. The platform delivers on what it promises, but you still need to do some due diligence to find the right fit.
Booking process is a failure

No user login so anytime you are booking you have to re-enter all insurance and personal information. Overall an awful experience. Will not be moving forward with this service.
Hire human staff
Hire some human staff who can actually help with issues they are facing. A 3 day response time in 2026 is absolutely outrageous. Alma charged my card nearly $150 because their system is so slow to update, it hasn't pulled in my updated insurance (going on 4 weeks now). As someone who oversees customer experience and internal processes, I am appalled that Alma doesn't have a human escalation process figured out. They don't even have a customer service number for someone to call. Despite being a behavioral health and wellness platform, they are do not treat their platform users like humans. If you're going to over-invest in AI, then at least have the AI working efficiently and pulling accurate information.
Lot's of red tape if you ever want to cancel
I'm a provider and used their platform for a couple years. They were great at the start but in true tech company fashion, have gone downhill fast. They're customer services is terrible, it's impossible to talk to a live agent via chat or phone, and they make cancellation of the service very complicated. Also, their fees are too high, especially given there are now similar companies that provide similar rates for no fee. Very disappointed w/ the last several months of my time with them. The only real value they provide for the fee is their number of CEU options.
