Do not buy anything from this company.
They are fraudulent company.
The merchandise quality is poor.
It is virtually impossible to get a refund.

I wish I could give one star. I purchased shoes on July 4th and received them on July 16, 2026. First of all, the products are very cheaply made. I would be more furious if I had not paid the sale price. Second, returns are impossible to make without paying overseas shipping cost totaling the cost of your order. You are only made aware of this when you attempt to make a return. Third, I ordered shoes in a women’s size 8.5 and received shoes about two sizes larger.

I contacted the company, they sent a replacement order with the exact same incorrect size. Now, they are no longer answering my emails.

If there were clear transparency on the website about where the merchandise ships from and that the buyer pays for all future returns, I would have never placed an order! Their website clearly advertises “easy returns “. This is not true! Do not under any circumstances believe this!

Extremely difficult return process

I wish I had read the reviews before ordering.

I purchased a dress that looked beautiful on the Harper & Wells website. Unfortunately, the dress I received was significantly different from the photos and was much cheaper-looking than advertised.

What was most frustrating was the return process. I contacted customer service requesting a full refund and was repeatedly offered partial refunds — first 15%, then 20%, and eventually 30% — or store credit, rather than a straightforward refund.

After numerous emails and a great deal of back-and-forth, I was finally given a return address in China and told that I would have to pay the international return shipping myself. The shipping cost may be close to the price of the dress itself.

It has been exhausting trying to resolve what should have been a simple return. I have spent far too much time emailing back and forth just to try to get my money back.

I will never order from Harper & Wells again. Based on my experience, I strongly recommend reading the return policy carefully and understanding that returns may have to be shipped internationally at the customer's expense.

The items received are entirely different from what is advertised on your website—the fabric is cheap, plastic polyester, and the quality is completely unacceptable. Furthermore, claiming that returns are easy while insisting on low partial refunds or forcing customers to pay expensive shipping to return items to China is extremely deceptive, especially for a company marketed with a Boston connection.

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS SITE! I recently bought a dress that looked great and advertised as if it was coming from Boston. I then noted it was taking a long time, saw the shipping tracking was coming from Asia. The quality was terrible, badly finished and the advertising was completely deceptive. They have a fake storefront, misleading ads and won't honor their free30 day return offer. I had to call my CC company to dispute the charge since their customer service just offers you you 10% and keep the terrible product. PLEASE - Harper & Wells is a total scam w/deceptive business practices. Buyer Beware!

Scam. The picture looked like a well-made bomber jacket. What arrived was a plastic letterman jacket, very cheaply made. As it’s from China, return would cost more than purchase. Just awful. Very misleading.

Nothing about them is based in Boston - they are a Chinese company with a return policy that makes you return the item to CHINA so DON'T BE DECEIVED! Take your business to a reputable company!!!

Total scam from a fake non existing business with no legit location in the US. Foreign cons who lead consumers to give up on returning their crappy merchandise by offering alternate solutions that are far worse than the original problems. Report this business to BBB and all US consumers advocates

I wish I could give 0 stars. Not sure why trustpilot is giving it 2, since all reviews are 1s. Everything everyone has said is absolutely true. I'm trying to return a poorly fitting, poorly made dress and getting ghosted. The reviews on their website are fake. As are the "original" and "sale" prices. And the address on their website is a rundown house in Boston. You'll do much better with a thrift store or amazon.

Customer service was wonderful with my first order of a dress. The item did not look at all like the picture. After a few back-and-forth offers they finally offered me an item of the exact price free. It was quickly shipped and the shoes are awful. They do not look at all like the picture. Though very disappointed a second time, I do not have the time or patience to go through the hassle again! This is what they depend on...people giving up!!!

Item advertised and item that arrived after purchase bore almost no resemblance - what I got was a flimsy, cheap knock-off that was sized wrong and felt creepy against my skin. Took me Forever to negotiate a refund (seriously, like 2 months of backandforth) and then had to settle for a very partial refund just to be done with it all. They are NOT based in Boston, they are a front for a cheap sweatshop overseas. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS SCAM COMPANY!

It doesn't even deserve 1 star. I bought a dress it arrived all packaging outside and in all ripped. The dress was stuffed into the inside bag & not even closed. I hated it. A dress at the flea market would have better quality. I wrote 6 emails to Support they had me send them, numerous times, to send photos, I complied. I begged for info where to return. I was finally offered a ridiculous refund & they ignored that I wanted to return for a full refund. There's no Cust. Serv. Really. DONT BUY FROM THEM YOU'LL REGRET IT. THEIR EASY RETURN POLICY IS A LIE!!!!

Do not be fooled by the name "Harper & Wells - Boston." They use "Boston" to trick buyers into believing they are purchasing from a reputable US-based business, but everything about this operation is deceptive.

The clothing quality is atrocious and looks nothing like the photos online. When you attempt to return the items, you find out they expect you to ship everything back to China at your own expense—a requirement that is nowhere in their marketing, product pages, or checkout process.

When you complain about the return location, customer service offers you an insulting deal: keep the crappy clothes and take a 30% partial refund, or pay outrageous international shipping fees to send them back overseas to China (which costs more than the clothing itself).

This is a total bait-and-switch operation designed to dump low-quality items on customers and trap them into keeping garbage. Save your money and buy elsewhere - Temu sells the exact same items that I purchased on their website.

The clothes are nothing like pictures , cheap shiny polyester and easy returns means 20% money back and keep clothes which are worthless or send everything to China at great expense and who knows if you will ever see your refund.. This has nothing to do with Boston,all BS.
It’s a total deception . It all looks great in pictures but it’s horrible cheap material and basic returns are non existent.

The fit, quality and inconsistency with the website description of the item I purchased were absolutely awful, but even worse was the customer service (or lack thereof) when I tried to return it, well within the 30 day return window. I followed all the "rules" for returns, but they tell you to wait for more information about where to return the item, and then completely ghost you. They tell you on the website that they will respond "within 24 hours," but don't...and no one ever picks up the phone. THIS IS A SCAM! They tell you they are based in Boston, MA, USA, but are actually a Chinese retailer.

I echo Larry Garland's review--steer clear of this online merchant. The quality is abysmal, and the "30-day money back guarantee" prominently featured on their home page is bogus. If you attempt to return something, you will enter into a negotiation with an AI puppet (I had "Emily") who will offer you a $10% refund and a 25% discount on your next order. You get to keep the clothes! Yuck. Don't want these clothes; that's the problem. You will reply, I want a 100% refund. Emily will up the game to a 20% refund and 50% discount on your next order. She's being "generous," because, according to her, if you want to return the items (to China, of course), shipping charges will cost you as much as your original purchase. You might threaten them with a charge back (I did). Emily will say, Okay, this is the best I can do: $50% refund, and if you attempt a charge back, you can expect to wait up to three months for your money. Bank of America processed my charge back in two days.

⚠️ BUYER BEWARE — HARPER & WELLS BOSTON

I want to warn others about my experience with Harper & Wells Boston.

I purchased two dresses on July 20, 2026, for about $59 each. The quality was terrible — in my opinion, the material felt more like cheap costume fabric than women's clothing, and the sewing/workmanship was extremely poor.

When I tried to return them, I learned that despite the "Boston" branding, my order was shipped from China and they are requiring me to return the clothing to China at my expense.

Since requesting a return, I've been offered first a 20% refund, and now a 45% refund if I just keep the clothes. I've repeatedly declined because I want to return them for a full refund.

It is now August 14 — 25 days after my purchase — and I still have not been able to complete the return. I've been asked to provide photos, complete and print forms, send photos of the completed forms for approval, and wait for further return instructions. I was also initially provided return-address information that I did not believe was sufficient to confidently ship an international package.

Their latest email says international return shipping can cost $30–$50 per item — when the dresses themselves cost only about $59 each — while again encouraging me to accept the 45% refund instead.

I'm sharing this so other customers understand what my experience with the return process has actually been before ordering from Harper & Wells Boston.

Do your research before purchasing there stuff is Chinese Junk Clothing and they do not have any store or locations in Boston!!!!! or the US for that matter.

Ordered several ladies clothing items from Harper & Wells-Boston, as I saw the company running banner ads in the New York Times online newspaper and thought the company would be legitimate. Nope. First off, it took forever for the order to arrive—when it did arrive, the clothing was awful. The materials used were very cheap & flimsy, and looked nowhere as nice as they looked in their ads. Their website says they will accept exchanges & returns. You think it will be easy peasy. Nope. There’s no phone number to call, and you have to communicate with customer service via email. Returns have to be sent back to China (pretty far from Boston!) and they immediately tell you to make a return to China will be so expensive that it will be prohibitively expensive to you, so instead they’ll offer up a small credit to your original form of payment & tell you that you can keep the clothing. I dickered back & forth with them until they offered me a 40% credit back & I kept the clothes.” I gave the clothes to charity. Buyer beware. Harper & Wells is not an American company based in Boston. False advertising. Nothing but a scam.
