Used it and it reworked the aspect ratio of all my files. Over 500 files... Why on earth would a feature like that be automatically turned on?!? I just wanted a new codec, and now I have to spend 50 or more hours filtering through my videos to find the ones that handbrake ruined. Has setting this feature on ever helped a single person? The answer is no. And thereby, it should be setup with it turned off.

You get what you pay for, I guess. I got shafted big time.

I (with a design and artistic background) stumbled upon this product today by chance. I was very desperate with the poor output quality of the AI-generated videos I've encountered so far (especially on desktop screens). Meta.ai video generator, for example, only produces 480p videos, and many others offer a maximum of 720p. Even the 1080p videos, which are usually only available with quite expensive and quickly credits-depleting subscription plans, are heavily compressed - as far as I can see. To me, they look like images with a JPG compression of 5%, or even less ...

OK. I upscaled a five-second test video (480p, 535 kbit/s and 371 KB small) to 1080p using this free tool (many thanks to the original developer Eric Petit from France). I honestly had no hope at all. How should it be possible to conjure something good out of something so bad, especially when greatly enlarged? It defies all logic and all my previous experience. But when I saw all the possible settings in this tool, I was simply amazed. I deliberately chose the highest possible output quality and code-settings that my old Mac Pro could still handle without problems (because I wanted to be able to do some decent post-production work). The result (after 2 seconds), a 1080p video at 20 Mb/s and 13.4 MB size. I still can't believe that such a large scaling can produce such a result. I see no big difference from the original, and it is much larger now in resolution.

Unfortunately the 480p source material is so heavily compressed, otherwise the result would of course be even better. It's clear that it can't become a high-end video in the end. Anyway, for me, this is THE tool. Free, offline (!), professional settings, super fast, and maximum quality.

N O T E: I tested another 480p video from the Meta.ai video generator (which is great in itself), and it doesn't look that good after upscaling. It was already a particularly poor-quality 480p video to begin with. It seems to me that the video output from the Meta.ai video generator is the worst of all, and it's also only 480p. No wonder that this video generator is free. The Meta.ai image generator is also top-notch in itself, but the output is unfortunately also heavily compressed. All of this is apparently only good enough for casual use on a mobile phone. It's best to avoid it altogether or at most just test it, but you can't really do anything more demanding with it, in my opinion. My "problem" generally is that I work on a desktop computer, which has different requirements ...

Parfait pour transformer des vieux DVD de famille en fichier MP4 lisible partout , Avec VLC pas de son , les autres sont payant celui est gratuit sans pub , il fonctionne parfaitement bien .

Handbrake hat einen nicht kopiergeschützten Film von über 7 GB auf eine Größe von 1,24 GB heruntergerechnet. Das Film- und Tonmaterial nichts mehr taugten, war offensichtlich. Wenn man einen so großen Film auf so eine Größe schrumpft, kann man ihn wegwerfen.
Eine nicht kopiergeschützte Filmdatei von 1,08 GB Größe, deren Länge fast viereinhalb Stunden beträgt, wird nicht konvertiert, ohne SOFORT die CPU zu überhitzen. Den Film kann ich wegwerfen. Ich habe Core Temp installiert und das schaltet die PC bei Überhitzung sofort ab. Ich kann das Programm auf der niedrigsten Priorität (Idle) laufen lassen; es nutzt nichts. CPU (Prozessor) überhitzt sofort.
Handbrake is ein unbrauchbares Schrottprogramm.

Has a lot of settings that might be a bit confusing, and you kinda have to know what you do, but it's very reliable. It does a great job of conversion and compression.

Finding the programme a bit hit & miss. Sometimes it flips/reverses the videos that have been upscaled for no reason or if doesn't follow the instruction to upscale & the video stays in it's original frame . I've had to redo about a quarter of those that I've transfered so far, can't complain for a free programme though

HandBrake is hands down my favorite tool for video conversions. It’s completely free and open source, yet it offers a range of features that easily compete with many paid software options. I wasn't expecting much considering its a free programme but wow it was my saviour when converting my entire James Bond Collection of blu-ray discs to MP4s that had to have an added AC3 Dolby Digital track so i could run them through my ever old but faithful Sony 5.1 amp I have to rip them with MakeMKV using Flac Audio track then drop them into Handbrake and output them with AC3 5.1 sadly my normal converter Video Mastering Works could convert the file but couldn't do AC3 the option simply isn't there for MP4s so thought i would give Handbrake a try and wow it did an amazing job not only does the video quality look better than my old converter at the same file size but the sound options available were second to none and the all important AC3 5.1 Dolby Digital option was there on MP4s...Marvellous!
This is a great programme this combined with MakeMKV is the perfect way to back up your physical media.

As a man, I am almost at tears at how easy it is to convert my personal DVDs to MP4 (video file).
I copy only the VIDEO_TS folder to the PC, and drag it onto the app. Incredible !
Note, I discovered that if I turn off and on the monitor while it is converting, it creates a super long, duplication video. If I leave the monitor on, it creates a single copy of the DVD.

this is an undeniably powerful tool that can handle just about any homemade DVDs. Doesn't work for new releases. WinX DVD Ripper Platinum showed better performance.

I love this open-source transcoder software. Many commercial products should look up to and learn from it...

you can rip your DVD collation and start watching it anywhere.TV, iPad, iPhone etc
At the moment I am trying to upscale them to 4k using Topaz Video Enhance So I can watch them on my big 55" TV without them looking terrible. hand brake offers a great Deinterlace and Detelecine options as Topaz Video Enhance will not produce good results without this so it's a great addition!
