A Positive Experience....

Well... more often than not, I come here to moan. But... I gotta say a big thank you to Greater Anglia who refunded our 'non refundable' fare . We couldn't use the tickets because we were supposed to be going to Dubai - and that got Trumped. Happy to get our train ticket money back and happy to say something positive about Greater Anglia.

A really good service

I made my first train journey yesterday for a number of years and was very pleased with the whole process, from the ease of booking online (ticket conveniently on my mobile) to the comfort of the train, good information provision and the helpfulness of staff. It was an easier journey than driving and negotiating prolonged roadworks/diversions.

Forced to print ticket. It's 2026!!!!

Why, when I'm advised I can only book through the app, can I only retrieve my ticket by printing it out from the machine at the train station? Is it the 1980s again? The idiosyncrasies of who provides which part of the rail route I'm on is of no interest to me as a service user. Can only hope renationalising does away with such irritating complications.

Carriages are airless, stuffy and hideous to ride in.

The staff are friendly and polite. No complaints. The trains are a different story. They are airless stuffy and hot with radiators next to every seat. It's like being in an old persons home riding with Great Anglia Trains. In fact it's probably a good place to get ill. Hideous travel experience. What's wrong with having a small window you can open like in the classic days of British Rail. I feel like a processed ham in this carriage. Fresh air please.

Garbage company always late always signal problems. Whenever you try claim refund their shitty website doesn't work or is deliberately complicated to deter refunds. What a joke 21st century little Britain.

Poor unreliable

I’m giving one star only because there is no option for zero star.
Terrible service, disgusting staff attitudes. Unreliable, expensive, when cancelling train refusing refund. And they cancel train and on the next train the staff demand to pay for another ticket. Not as the original ticket is very overpriced they still demand more tickets. Not good shame on you Greater Anglia. Horrible

No refund

Train cancelled on New Years day due to a fatal accident on the tracks. Had to book another ticket via King's Cross and Cambridge to Norwich through Great Nortern service. The great Northern train got delayed by 15 mins.
Applied for compensation for both GA and GN, got a refund by a few amounts for GN, but no refund for train cancellations on GA due to lack of information even though I had posted a photo of my ticket and the train cancellation time. Avoid Greater Anglia service at all cost.

One star is generous

One star is generous. This is a company that generates significant profit from scamming its passengers. Their behaviour is shameless and beyond disgusting. Avoid at all costs.

Unfair and huge penalty

**Subject: Formal Complaint Regarding Penalty Fare Issued at Stansted Airport**

To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing to formally complain about the penalty fare that was issued to me during my recent journey with **Greater Anglia**.

As a student, this was my first time travelling from **London Liverpool Street station** to **Stansted Airport railway station**. I was unfamiliar with the ticketing system and believed that tapping my bank card before boarding and then taking a seat on the train was the correct procedure.

Upon arrival at Stansted Airport (the final station), I explained politely to the female inspector that I had no knowledge of the ticket-purchasing requirement and that I was travelling for the first time. Despite this, I was issued a charge of **£71 GBP**.

Penalty Fare Details:
PF Number: **GA20230088**
Inspector ID: **GA1536**

I felt very upset and distressed by the situation. There was no clear guidance provided to me beforehand, and I did not hear any announcement explaining that a separate ticket must be purchased prior to boarding. As a new passenger and a student unfamiliar with the system, I believe more visible instructions or staff guidance should be provided before passengers board the train.

This experience has left me feeling that the charge was unfair and excessive for a genuine mistake. I respectfully request a review of this penalty fare and ask the company to reconsider or cancel the charge as a gesture of goodwill.

Additionally, I strongly recommend that clearer instructions be communicated to passengers before boarding to prevent similar incidents in the future.

I look forward to your response and a fair resolution to this matter.

Need franchise removing terrible and ludicrous priced and pricing dtructurss ed that obfuscate real cost. Avoid at all costs cheaper to drive to London even paying parking and congestion . Inductive of why the uk is so screwed loads of money for awful services

Absolutely disgusting how I've been treated by the members of staff at Liverpool street working for greater anglia the guy on the gate had a chip on his shoulder aggressive and rude and his manager was an absolute pleb and to top it off I missed my train because of staff being rude and agressive and reporting me to their manager no wonder why the staff on this network get abused by the public disgusting behaviour

I put in a delay repay claim because my…

I put in a delay repay claim because my train was eventually cancelled before its final destination, unfortunately due to someone being taken ill.

I then had to pay for another train to take me the rest of the way.

I’ve been told the train wasn’t delayed so no compensation will be given… how?! The train was cancelled before it reached where it was going!

So not only do I get no compensation I’ve also paid for two tickets, when they’re already an extortionate price. Great.

We were a party of 6 with a wheelchair.

We were a party of 6, with one person in a wheelchair and also visually impaired, on a day return from Lowestoft to London. The staff were wonderful! They were helpful, polite amusing and very understanding when one of our number lost his return ticket between getting through the London barrier and getting on the train (you can’t cure stupid!). They were there at each change to help with ramps for the wheelchair. Can’t praise the staff enough. The trains were on time, clean and comfortable enough, although not the most modern.

If I could give zero stars I would

If I could give zero stars I would. Arrived at Ely station and downloaded Pay By Phone App. Despite repeated attempts to register, the app kept telling me it didn’t recognise my log in details. Then rang to pay over the phone and it was just a recorded message to say ‘use the app’. Then tried text method. No response. Finally went on to website. Very long winded process to pay £2. Terrible experience. Greater Anglia need to sort this out.
