I ended up paying €295 for insurance I did not want, I did not need and I already had.

I had a very disappointing experience with Goldcar at Palma Airport and would not rent from them again.

I had booked and paid for my rental car in advance and had already purchased separate excess insurance. At the Goldcar desk, however, I was told that I either had to leave a deposit of more than €2,000 on my credit card or buy Goldcar’s additional insurance for about €295.

I offered both my credit card and debit card. The employee told me that only the credit card could be used for the deposit and then told me that my available credit limit was not sufficient. So my choice was effectively: buy their insurance or leave without the car I had already paid for.

It was after midnight because our flight had been significantly delayed, my child was waiting for me at the airport, and our accommodation was more than an hour away. I therefore paid for the insurance, even though I already had insurance and did not want or need another policy.

What makes this experience particularly troubling is what I discovered afterwards. My bank confirmed that my credit card did in fact have sufficient available credit at the time. They also confirmed that no authorisation request from Goldcar had been declined.

For the €295 insurance payment, the Goldcar employee recommended that I use my debit card rather than my credit card, specifically so that I would not further use my supposedly limited credit. I followed that advice. Unfortunately, this also meant that when I later tried to dispute the payment with my bank, the additional protection available for my credit card did not apply to the debit-card payment.

I contacted Goldcar several times afterwards and asked a very simple question: Why was I told that my credit card did not have sufficient available credit when my bank confirms that it did, and that no authorisation had been declined?

Goldcar never answered that question. Instead, they repeatedly told me that I had signed for the insurance and therefore the charge was correct.

Yes, I signed it. But I signed it because I was told that my credit card could not cover the required deposit and that without either the deposit or their insurance I could not take the car.

I cannot know why I was given incorrect information at the desk. What I do know is that it resulted in me paying €295 for insurance I had not wanted to buy, and Goldcar has repeatedly declined to explain what happened.

No one from the staff members at the office or via e-mail was friendly or honestly trying to find a resonable solution.

Så måtte kontakte Booking.com hvor igennem bilen var bestilt. Det kunne ikke booke hos en anden udbyder eller returnere det fulde beløb da lejeperioden var startet - det var den da tiden var gået med at diskutere med Goldcar medarbejder og derefter at komme igennem til Booking.com.
Så måtte opsøge et andet udlejningsfirma i lufthavnen for at leje en bil, hvilket blev en noget dyrere oplevelse - men vi kunne ikke undvære bil på ferien

Største svindelfirma, der direkte lyver til deres kunder for at snyde dem til at betale mere, for derefter at tilføje flere ting til regningen som man eksplicit har frabedt sig.
Hvis man alligevel vil leje sin bil her vil jeg anbefale at man bruger kreditkort så man kan trække pengene tilbage igen med det samme. De fortjener ikke at få dem

Zdecydowanie nie polecam tej wypożyczalni. Pracownik obsługujący jedyne dostępne stanowisko napadł nas dzisiaj werbalnie. Był niezwykle agresywny i kazał nam, cytuję: „spierdalać na zmywak do Irlandii”. Taka osoba absolutnie nie powinna pracować w obsłudze klienta, gdyż ewidentnie nie panuje nad swoimi emocjami. Dont use goldcar, booked car through TUI cartrawler, with all extra insurance..
And we came early for pickup, and they started by charging extra, for an upgrade car.. because the rental we have booked wasnt ready.. aceepted upgrade 12 euro pr. day....
We declined any additional insurance, and but in theire terrible english in the counter, they had all kinds of excuses for they could not "reserve" deposit on our car, and would charge, and we would get it back after returning car and additional 5 days.. but after waiting for the morning not arriving back, we studiiet the contract.. and for deposit they had put in 2 extra insurances.. which we already had paid for.. so a big scam and hustler company....

Book ikke Goldcar i Palma meget lange lange køer og op til tre timers ventetid og opkrævning til fast track kø med euro så den billige leje ikke mere var billig.
Længere ventetid end flyvetur endte med at tage en taxa

Experiencia extremadamente negativa en el mostrador 18 – 07/07 a las 17:30

El día 7 de julio a las 17:30 tuve una experiencia absolutamente inaceptable en el mostrador 18 del servicio de alquiler en el aeropuerto de Palma de Mallorca. La empleada que nos atendió mostró un comportamiento agresivo, hostil y totalmente fuera de control desde el primer momento.

Nos presionó de manera insistente para comprar un seguro adicional y, cuando no aceptamos, su actitud se volvió aún más violenta y despectiva. Se negó a proporcionar su nombre, se negó a llamar a un supervisor y llegó a decir que podíamos quejarnos “todo lo que quisiéramos” porque nadie la iba a responsabilizar. Incluso afirmó que sus compañeros apoyarían su versión y que nos harían parecer “los problemáticos”, mientras varios empleados observaban y respaldaban su conducta.

Además de la agresividad, la empleada mostró un trato claramente discriminatorio hacia nosotros por ser portugueses y un comportamiento racista hacia mi marido debido al color de su piel. Su tono, sus gestos y su actitud fueron completamente inapropiados y ofensivos.

Este episodio arruinó el inicio de nuestras vacaciones y causó un enorme malestar a toda mi familia. Un servicio que permite este tipo de comportamiento no es confiable ni seguro para los clientes. No recomiendo bajo ninguna circunstancia acudir a este mostrador ni utilizar este servicio.

Would have given ZERO stars if possible. Stay away from this firm (and Goldcar, who they are working with). Rented a car in Bordeaux through Economy Car Rentals. When we got to the office (Goldcar) to pick up the car, the driver who rented the car had forgotten his physical drivers license (only had it in app). And we had ordered an additional driver.
The guy in the office couldn’t help us. He couldn’t change the primary driver, to one who had brought the drivers license. Even though we had asked to have an additional driver. Of cause it is our own fault, that the drivers license was forgot.
Makes no sense, that the rental office can’t change any of the informations or drivers. What if you went ill? Or broke you arm? And needed another person to drive.
He told us the only possibility was to rent a new car, and he would find us the best offer… And he said, that we he could see, that we had only paid the deposit, so we just shouldn’t pay the rest, and the only extra cost we would have, was the deposit.
We were tired after a long days journey, so we believed him. Unfortunately!
We got and paid the other car, and even though he told us, we wouldn’t be charged the ‘first’ car, we were a week later also charged with that car. So now we’ve pais for TWO cars, but only rented and used ONE.
Smart and clever way to rip customers off, and earn double the amount.
We’ll NEVER use Economy Car Rental or Goldcar agsin! And we’ll tell everybody to stay away from these companies.

Super dårlig oplevelse 🤬
De ville have at man betale 21000 kr i depositum, da jeg skulle hente bilen, (de blev ikke kun spærret på kortet, men trukket fra kontoen….
2 dage efter aflevering, kom der kun 20000 kr retur, på trods af en fejlfri gennemgang.
Sikke et møg firma!!!

Virkelig dårlig og uacceptabel service

Vi ankom for sent til afhentning af bilen, udelukkende fordi vores fly var forsinket. Da vi endelig nåede frem, var kontoret lukket.

Vi ventede til næste morgen – kun for at få at vide, at de nægtede at udlevere nøglen, selvom hele lejeperioden var forudbetalt.

“Løsningen”?
At vi kunne få lov til at leje en ny bil og betale én gang til.

Det er ikke service. Det er udnyttelse.

Goldcar virker mere interesseret i at tjene ekstra på kunders uheld end i at levere det, man allerede har betalt for. Ingen fleksibilitet, ingen ansvarlighed – og ingen moral.

Aldrig mere Goldcar.
De snyder, hvis de kan komme til det, og de har tilsyneladende ingen skam i livet.

I had one of the worst rental experiences with Goldcar / Europcar Malta.
I booked my car online with Super Relax Cover (Full Cover) insurance — which clearly removes all excess and covers all possible damage. However, when I received the final invoice, they had manipulated the insurance type to “Medium Protection” and illegally charged me €250 for an alleged scratch that I did not cause.
During vehicle return, one of their employees pressured me to sign a damage report, even saying I wouldn’t be allowed to leave unless I signed. I only wrote “N.O.” to show my disagreement. This was an extremely unprofessional and intimidating experience.
I have sent multiple complaints to Goldcar and Europcar customer service, but they never replied.
I have now escalated the case to the European Consumer Centre (ECC Malta) and will continue to pursue it further until it is resolved.
This appears to be a serious scam-like practice, manipulating insurance details after booking and charging customers unfairly.
I strongly advise anyone renting from Goldcar or Europcar Malta to double-check their contracts and insurance type before signing anything.

The woman at the rental counter was friendly — but only until she realized she couldn’t sell me any extra insurance or add-ons (I was already covered elsewhere). The car had no windshield washer fluid, and the tire pressure hadn’t been checked, so the car soon started warning about low pressure. When I called to ask about the issue, it took me an hour to reach a staff member who could speak English. In the end, I spent half a day finding a place to get it fixed.

Lejede bil i Goldcar gennem Rentalcar i Malaga. Havde købt ekstra (fuld forsikring) hjemmefra. De ville så sælge en ekstra forsikring. Den ønskede vi ikke. Ville betale med Mastercard, men hun påstod, at der var noget i vejen med kortet, som hun satte i kortlæseren. Prøvede så selv. Nu kunne kortet pludselig læses og pinkoden blev accepteret. Så påstod hun, at der var problemer med at reservere det høje beløb, de forlanger i depositum. Hun bad os kontakte vores bank (lørdag aften)!
Vi har ofte brugt kortet til at stille depositum, og det fejler intet. Vi var nødt til at betale den ekstra forsikring på 335 Euro for at få en bil. Ren svindel.

This is the worst rental car experience ever.
Booked thru rentalcars.com and payed here, also for extra insurance . When I should pick up car, thete suddenly an extra change on for 209 Euro. This is a very non tranperant businessmodel. The listed price is not what you can expect. Go with the bigger and more transperant companies. This is a cheaper deal. This company uses disonest and nontransperat business models + a 2 hours waiting to get the car.

Pas på med tillæg af forsikring, selvom du har sagt nej.

På den spansk udfyldte lejekontrakt blev der alligevel skrevet forsikring på, det kunne vi ikke gennemskue(læse) og underskrev ud fra samtalen vi havde, da vi meget ofte lejer bil i udlandet.

Vi blev efterfølgende opkrævet 1400,- - Dvs. vi blev dobbelt forsikret både gennem vores rejseforsikring og hos Goldcar.

Vi havde bestilt en mellem størrelse bil som vi afhentede i Pisa lufthavn. Bil levede fuld op til vores forventninger. Vi gennemgik bilen inden vi tog afsted og fik indskrevet nogle skrammer som vi fandt. Jeg havde talt med min egen forsikring inden vi tog på ferie og her oplyste man os, at det er helt almindeligt at reservere et beløb, hvilket også blev gjort. Vi havde ingen problemer med bilen, hellere ikke ved afhentning og returnering og personalet var imødekommende.
Godt havde det dog være, hvis der havde været sprinklervæske på bilen😉

I rentet a car in malaga at the end of July. I received a speeding ticket which ( of course) I paid. Gold

car wanted a 20 % fee for paying,which I declined and payed the ticket myself.
BuT the have charged 40 euro from my mastercard,claiming its mandatory and also says so in my contract. This is not true. My contract does not say anything about a fee if I get a fine.
It is impossible to get in contact with anyone at Goldcar and the just took the money from my mastercard. Goldcar is not worth it at all. I payed ALL the extra insurance on top of this.
Rent from some of the other car companies at the airport. Goldcar is not worth it ...way to expensive into the apparently.
