I’ve been using Freemius for my WordPress plugins since 2022 to sell paid add-ons. It handles almost everything for me so I can just focus on plugin development and customer support.

I actually switched from EDD to Freemius because there are no upfront costs. Freemius only takes a cut when I make money, which took a lot of pressure off. Plus, their Slack community is active and really helpful. Highly recommend it to any plugin dev!

We are a small Croatian print shop selling a browser-based imposition tool, and we compared Freemius against another
Merchant of Record before committing.

We sent both the same seven pre-sales questions — the dull ones our accountant needed answered: which entity contracts with us, what exactly the reverse invoice shows, whether an EU VAT number gets reverse charge, what happens to the fees on a refund. Freemius answered all seven the first time and attached a sample reverse invoice. The other provider dodged three of them and said it would decide whether to accept us only after we had built the integration. That settled it.

Since then: verification took two working days, the checkout works, EU reverse charge applied correctly on our first real sale, and the webhooks are documented well enough that our licensing ran end to end without hand-holding. We tested a refund with our own money and it behaved exactly as described.

One honest note: the NET +60 payout schedule was not made clear to us up front — we found it ourselves. When we raised it, support said plainly that they had not communicated it well, instead of explaining it away. That answer is the reason we trust the rest of what they tell us.
