Great device
Great device. We have this on 2 dogs, a puppy and a mature dog. We track exercise, sleep, fitness, miles and hours of play each day. It also gives us data on how our dogs data compares to other dogs of the same age and breed. Highly recommend this device. Note: ours is not GPS, only health data.
I've given this gps tracker and company…
I've given this gps tracker and company a YEAR of benefit of the doubt, and unfortunately, it started out as a useless product and never got any better.
First I had to go through THREE (3!) devices before getting one that would charge properly because the charging mechanism is so unbelievably unreliable and finicky that it works only about 1/3 of the time. That was straight out of the box. Now the gps itself is so unreliable and updates so sporadically that I can't imagine it would actually help at all if I needed to find my pet. It alerts you that your pet is in solo mode while sitting right next to you and doesn't tell you when your pet has left the perimeter or "safe place" for about 20 minutes, which is more than enough of a head start to ensure your pet will be down the road and around the corner if they do leave. It also doesn't connect to bluetooth reliably, so when in "solo mode" (mistakenly), it runs down the battery so fast that it's anyone's guess whether the thing actually has a charge at any given moment. We had to evacuate in an emergency and the tracker was dead from being in "solo mode" all night while my dog was literally asleep next to me the whole time.
The customer service, while available and responsive most hours, will ask you the same questions repeatedly and most of all never apologize for any inconvenience or offer a refund for subscriptions or devices that don't work because of malfunctions on their end. When I was waiting for my four new devices, not one person offered to refund me for the MONTH of unusable subscription time it took to get my new ones. And when I told them how disappointed I was at the waste of money, they barely responded. Most companies would offer some kind of refund for the months that the device was so dysfunctional it was unusable or at least for the long time it was caught up in shipping from their facilities, but not these guys.
I'm embarrassed to say I've kept this subscription and device that is almost completely useless for a year, just hoping it would get better and thinking "it's better than nothing." But I've recently come to the conclusion that almost anything else is better than the Fit Bark, even an air tag, which is what I will be switching to now. Feels more and more like a scam since reflecting on the fact that I haven't had a usable device since day one.
One of the worst tech products you’ll…
One of the worst tech products you’ll ever buy. The concept is fantastic and when it works, it serves its purpose. WHEN IT WORKS. The problem is: the design (cover you can’t take off- plastic straps that are cheap and low quality), the technology (doesn’t work, always down, don’t sync, backdated firmware, and just doesn’t sync) and customer service (while responsive, are clueless and have no idea how to help). So yes. If it works- it will be great. Until they redesign the cover, make sure don’t break your fingers or the actual bit itself
Terrible experience
Tracker does not let you know right away when the dog has left the yard. It might alert you after about 15 min. When it does finally update the location, the dog is far from home. It will not update location for another 10 to 15 minutes after that. We almost lost both our dogs due to this poor tracker.
Avoid Fitbark. Not an Accurate Tracker
Avoid this product. I thought it was great for the first few hours but then noticed large gaps in the data. Customer service kept giving excuses, blaming my phone or saying it was because I force closed the app! The product is just bad. My dog sleeps in the next room & the tracker can’t track the data overnight.
Cellular tracking does not work
The alleged cellular tracker function does not work, apparently, unless the dog is near someone else’s home. We live on 50 acres, and when the dog takes off we get no tracking at all for 15-30 minutes if not forever. It does show him quickly if he goes near a neighbor. This is acting like an Apple tag, not a cellular tracker. We consulted fitbark but their descriptions and tests were confusing and they dodged simple questions. Many instances we tried to track and it has never worked unless the dog is in proximity to a nearby home
Warning: subscription autorenewals!
Update Mar 18, 2024: FitBark has issued a full refund after receiving the consumer complaints I filed with the Better Business Bureau and the MO & NC Attorneys General.
Original review:
As first time dog owners, we purchased a FitBark GPS + 3-year data plan back in 2020 for our new rescue pup - mostly for peace of mind. We used the device for about 2 years - we reached out to their chat support with numerous issues (the GPS /“lost dog” function never worked, repeated sync issues, a faulty charger, etc.) Ultimately we gave up, stuffed it in a drawer, deleted the app, and swallowed the extra year of data we’d pre-purchased.
We recently discovered that FitBark charged my card for another three years ($214.20) without my consent back in November.
It turns out all FitBark subscriptions are automatically set to auto-renew - apparently you have to click a button at the bottom of the “Billing” screen to “disable” auto-renewals in the app. They do not contact you in any way to notify you that a renewal is upcoming or even to send you a receipt of the transaction. A customer support agent admitted that the only time they contact you is if the charge is declined 🙄
FitBark only has a chat function for customer support - they do not allow you to speak to anyone by phone or even “chat” with a manager. They have been adamant that there is nothing they can do to remedy this situation. Because I didn’t catch the charge in time to dispute it with my credit card, I am on the hook for $214.20 of “data subscription” charges that I have never and will never use - in addition the the $70 device + $214.20 initial data plan I purchased … that’s almost $500 for a product that never really worked!
RUN from this company!!!
The tracking is all over the place
The tracking is all over the place. Customer Support is via email or message only. Had issues since day one, many chats documented. Decided 43 days this wasn't going to work for me and they said it was past the 30 day return. Would not recommend. Unreliable tracking, geo fence too big for. Cat owner.,
A service and product that should be renamed fitbroke
After using this product on my two dogs for roughly 6 months and talking several times with the online support crew about several problems with the devices and software installed on my phone. I've come to realize that though personnel are courteous and timely with responses, the product itself is deeply flawed! The batteries which I was told by the staff should normally last up to 30 days never survives more than 24 hours of normal use. Now the team will tell you that somehow the problem is in your hardware and not their software. Trying to shift blame somehow to your side. But the actual fact is that the product when installed on the phone other than permissions and notifications has no way to fine-tune problems that may arise between cell tower Communications and your phone for GPS location. After 5 months I have finally thrown in the towel and uninstalled this product do to suspicious permissions and activities that it wants to control in the background that breach personal security and drain your phone's battery! Beware, beware, beware and lastly beware! This product is not worth the money they want to charge the GPS/fitness tracker as purchased X2 on Amazon for $100 each nor the price of the subscription X2 for 200 dollars each!
After it working for months (Sept 2022…
After it working for months (Sept 2022 to May2023) tech service blamed our phone for it not working.
We went through all their options to update it, firmware etc and they just said it must be our iphones (SE brand new for one and the other is 2 years old).
Battery runs out after about 8 hours. Asked them to send a replacement fitbark and they won't try that to see if that is the issue. Blaming phone is easier.
The kicker is we have a 3 year plan we paid for and cannot use this the remaining 2.5 years.
Total rip off, shame on you fitback. Your shortsighted on customer service, cheaping out on a $10 piece of equipment. Telling everyone at every dog park (we wear it so people ask) and every walk we go on not to buy it. Will review on trust pilot and everywhere else so no one else gets burned.
Horrible customer service!
Horrible customer service!! I cancelled my subscription $97/year when my dog unexpectedly died in 2021. Needless to say, I was traumatized when I got an email in 2023 saying her subscription couldn’t be renewed this year due to the card not going through (expired). Digging into my credit card history, I saw that they had continued to charge me for her account after she died to this very day!!! Having to talk to their customer service through chat only, they didn’t even acknowledge the loss of my dog and refused to refund any previous charges, just repeatedly sending me a link to their 30-day refund policy. For a pet company, this is horrific customer service and their founders should look into a different industry if this is how they operate. I will NEVER utilize this company again and will tell everyone who will listen about their out-of-touch and completely robotic customer service reps.
PIECE OF JUNK
USELESS! Absolutely worthless tracker. It only showed my dog's location when she was right next to me. When she actually took off and I turned on tracking mode, it never updated her location in an area with plenty of signal. It could tell how much battery it had left, but God forbid it actually told me its location. DO NOT BUY! YOU WILL LOSE YOUR PET.
The app does not pull data
The app does not pull data unless you open it. It is done via Bluetooth, however, they state that they record 100 days, minute by minute and somehow I lost an entire month, 0 data, 0. The people that will reply to your messages are fast but not really helpful. I asked if I could change the date format from American to European and they said no, I with my minimal programming skills, understand that that would be a joke of a job to do, but they refused. I would not waste my money again on this product
Get something else
Bought the monitor for my dog and this app has been a complete letdown. Avoid. Don't buy monitor - won't solve your problems but add to them. So frustrating how how fickle it actually keeps track of how much activity dog is doing.
Seriously disappointed
We had our FitBit for 5 days, the device or the cable ties were faulty and the device came apart from my dogs collar.
Fitbarkoffered me the same deal I had already used for £20 off and then stopped replying to emails and messages.
You can't track the Fitbark, so it's not a tracker. Their customer service is shocking and I highly discourage anybody contemplating getting one of these, to get a different tracker.
This company takes your money and then disappears. Unbelievably disappointed
First class product and customer service
First class product
Battery last for ages
Easy app to use with product
Great customer service as they are always on chat forum and help out with any problems.
Money well spent abs can’t fault the product .
Highly recommended. AA⭐️
Very poor reliability
Very poor reliability. We got through 3 in less than 2 years. Each time had to purchase another one. Looks like the GPS will not be coming to any countries outside US. Unfortunately customer service has also nose dived and is now absolutely awful. Tractive are light years ahead in every aspect.
Available for the same price but with far less functionality.
First of all I would like to say that the GPS function is ONLY available in the US and nowhere else. I live in the UK and bought one because Fitbark make it locally available. They charge the same price for a device that has far less functionality. This really is a rip off and Fitbark are getting too greedy making it available to countries outside the US before setting up GPS. I see all these fantastic reviews commenting on the GPS without a thought for users like me. Why make it available to the UK when it doesn't work and charge the same price?? We don't all live in America!!
Will continue to be a customer tbh
I have three of these. They update me when my pet leaves the safe zone. When my cat was stolen and the collar was ripped off, support helped me by sending me a list of all the locations logged during the time until I found it, which helped me prove my cat was stolen. It also gave me an idea of which direction the individual was headed. I was able to use my fitbark data to have the police file a criminal case.
Support is fantastic. They respond at all hours of the night.
I had an issue with my trackers connecting to my Bluetooth when Ieft my home wifi range, which was annoying, but I just check the live map.
Unreliable unit
Unreliable unit.
The unit failed to function less than 2 years after delivery. End up with a long chat and no replacement unit. Because they want the defective unit returned at great inconvenience. Even when it worked it took ages to update the data on to the app. Avoid
