CAR HIRE FOR OVER 75 YEAR OLD PEOPLE

I am over 75 years old and tried a number of car rental companies to hire a car,Some offered me a vehicle if I got letters from a doctor and also from my insurance company,{Not an option for me at short notice}
I hired a car in Dublin Airport from Europcar,I only had to produce a driving License and DVLA form stating no convictions and no penalty points {easily obtained online from DVLA)
We collected the car from an adjacent car park and had no problems,we received a message from Europcar a couple of days before returning to the airport with an attachment of directions back to the airport car park,(great if no sat nav.)
Arrived back safely,2 minutes handing back vehicle,Great service THANK YOU

Broken fuel gauge, bad customer service

I don't usually leave review unles for exceptionally good or exceptionally poor experiences. While my experience in Iceland was amazing, my experience with this rental company was, alas, terrible. They were the cheapest option, but I would have rather paid 10%-20% more for a fully functional vehicle that was available for the time we requested, and had roadside assistance.

Issues, ranked:
1) Fuel gauge sensors inconsistent and incorrect.

We first noticed when stopping to fill the tank. We decided to do this early on in the trip (a few hundred km) in a city where we could google it/ask for help as we knew gas pumps worked differently in Iceland. Thank goodness. At first, we didn't think the machine was accepting our debit cards as the sensors for the gague did not move. So we held the pump back from the car to confirm gas was flowing and relied on looking to ensure the tank was full. This generally is a bad way to fill up a tank as it is annoying, esp when its cold and raining, and increases the chance of a spill. We had to then manually track our usage for the rest of the trip. The gauge began rising slowly over the next 3 hours and began eventually reporting a full tank. Later on in the trip, it seemed to start decreasing plausibly, but we relied on manual checks to fill, and then tracking our mileage. Luckily, we noticed early. This added a lot of anxiety to the trip as we were in some remote areas, but our math was fine and we never got stranded.

We reported this issue when returning the car and were assured we would get a discount in a few days and they would fix it for the next person. That was a lie, there was no discount applied, we were charged the full price. No idea if they decided to fix it or not for the next person. I did not like their response mostly because to me this is a safety issue, and one they should have been very apologetic about. The other experiences to me were just general bad service, but renting out a car with broken fuel sensors seems more like a violation of the contract. Please take this more than anything into account before doing business with this company

2) The car was not available, and no one was at the office at the time of our reservation.

This is just bad customer service, not so much a safety isue. But super annoying as we had to make an expensive international phone call, then wait outside for an hour in the cold. No discount for losing an hour of our resercation and setting back our itinerary either. We also didn't get the car we reserved, but I think is pretty normal for car rental companies.

3) Their 'roadside assistance' number didn't work.

We had a few bars of service, but got a message that the number didn't exist. This was when we were trying to understand if it was just the fuel gague broken or there were perhaps other issues happening to the car. So far as we could tell, it was just the broken sensors, but again, knowing one part of the cars sensors don't work and the company doesn't actually seem to have roadside assistance added significant anxiety to the trip.

4) The car had an automatic lane adjustment that you had to change in the settings every time the car was turned off.

Okay, this is just a feature of the car they gave us (which again, was not the one we reserved) so perhaps not their fault entirely BUT I want to mention. If the lanes disapeared or reappeared on a road, which is common in the remote parts of the wester Fjords, this feature would start to auto-pull the car off the road. Very scary. There was generally no shoulder, and took us a while to figure out how to turn that off, and we often forgot to re-turn it off after stopping. This just seems like a dangerous feature to have automatically enabled. So watch out, you may see that behavior in a lot of newer cars with whatever company you go with

5) And one good thing! Their office in Reykjavik was open when we returned it AND had great complementary coffee.

Anyways, I absolutely do not recommend this company. They rented out a car with broken sensors and did not respect the time of our reservation.

Awful attitude to disabled customers

Asked for car suitable for my disabled. Twice delivered an unsuitable car and were abusive when I refused to accept a car I was unable to drive. Told me my deafness made life difficult for them as they had to email me.

Used the service in Lisbon (Rua Rodrigues). This company are fraudulent DO NOT USE. They took hundreds of £GBP in charges off me after the car hire. Several months later they are stealing small amounts of money from my account randomly. Theft at this scale must be stopped. Avoid using this company

Rented car in Carlisle cumbria had it one night next afternoon tire puncture 6 miles from rental place no spare tire no fix a flat called company mid afternoon told them needed new tire 5 hours later a guy came out said oh you need a new tire probley will not can get one tonight.. we got aride to the city with dropped the keys at EuroCar rented from enterprise the next day they charged us $415. 75 I think they should pay us back it also cost us valuable vacation time in my home town . I live in usa .DO NOT TRUST EURO CAR RENTAl

Europcar Reykjavík, Iceland rip-off

In preparation to our first-time trip to Iceland we rented from Europcar with standard insurance coverage thru Travelocity. The car had an odometer reading of over 45k kilometers and when we arrived and got the keys, we had to go find it in their remote (unattended and unsecured) open lot while it was raining.

At the end or our trip and upon returning the car, a Europcar employee noticed a small smooth dent on the hood. The dent that not been reported prior, according to their vehicle damage report. I was held responsible for the dent.

I explained to the on-duty supervisor (a young lady) that I had not noticed the damage in the rain at time of pick up but that I was certain that I had not struck anything during the trip. I also explained that I had paid for insurance coverage. The supervisor insisted that I had to pay the estimated damage cost directly to Europcar right then and there, and I could later file an insurance claim.

Ultimately, I was charged $1288 for what I believe could have been repaired for $100. The dent just needed to get popped out…no painting of bodywork needed. I honestly felt like I was being ripped off after a wonderful experience in Iceland.

In my opinion the supervisor was a bit too young and inexperienced to accurately determine the cost of damage. It was certainly not worth losing a return customer or the negative publicity for this review I’m posting here today. I never plan on using Europcar again!

Estafadores, sobrecostes injustificados

Alquile un coche en diciembre de 2021 en Lisboa. A la hora de firmar el contrato el precio era alrededor de 40€, al día siguiente de entregarlo me cobraron más de 90€. Entregué el coche con el depósito lleno y sin un solo arañazo, y tengo vídeos que lo demuestran. Llevo 2 años de reclamaciones y nunca se han dignado a contestarme hasta que me he dirigido al Centro Europeo del Consumidor. Al fin han contestado que esos gastos están dentro del depósito del alquiler del coche que firme, sin especificar por qué razón fueron cobrados, ni que daño ocasioné al vehículo ni nada. Son unos estafadores, y vista la falta de colaboración y las mentiras nos iremos a juicio.

Please don't use them! I ordered medium size car, received a Renault clio. I needed to pay extra just to get a bigger car. Not happy at all.

Bitter experience

I rented a car in Mexico city's international airport and my experience is that one price is given online because When a car is picked up there are to many extra charges. The real issue was that as soon as I paid out the rental service. My credit card was charged with 5 different transactions made on online. I went back to the place to complain that this was the only place where my credit card was used. The manager said that he would check it and he will give me a call. I am Still waiting I called my credit card company to report it cancel my credit card. Just be careful using your credit car.

Europcar/Keddy

Europcar/Keddy Espagne - Aéroport d’Ibiza : mauvaise expérience client. Refus de nous remettre le véhicule, beaucoup d’agressivité et de menaces, ton condescendant pour placer des assurances supplémentaires devenues au fil de l’eau obligatoires. Vente forcée que nous ne sommes pas prêt d’oublier. Après deux années difficiles, recours à des techniques de vente inacceptables à la limite de la légalité pour pouvoir faire de l’argent. Le personnel a tout tenté pour nous pousser à la faute afin de ne pas devoir honorer le contrat souscrit par internet et finalement nous laisser en plan sans aucune justification. Nous sommes donc allés au guichet juste à côté. A fuir absolument.

Bad car, bad after-service and arrogant attitude of after-service staff

We rented a car via SunnyCars at Europcar in Iceland (Keflavik airport).
It was getting dark, cold and little rain when we entered the car-park where our car was parked.
The promised quality of the car was not delivered we found out on our way from the airport to Reykjavik.
- Car was old with 65.000 km.
- Car had smell of smoke
- Car window wipers at the front side was not proper

When we returned the car the lady of the Europcar return desk said 10 times sorry sorry sorry this is a big mistake you should have got a much newer car.
You should request a refund due to this bad service.
This looked somehow promising.
But afterwards the service is terrible.
So I will never rent a car at Europcar anymore and I will not recommend anybody to do it!!!

Ladrones!

Europcar te hace pagar los danos de los demas para ganar mas dinero!
Mas de 10 días después de la devolución Europcar intenta hacerme pagar danos que ya existían en el coche. No es la primera vez que esta empresa intenta hacerme pagar daños de una forma que encuentro abusiva, sin previa concertation en el momento de la devolución del vehículo, aunque soy un cliente frecuente y registrado en su programa como tal.
Estoy harto de este tipo de tratamiento.

J’ai loué une voiture à l’aéroport de Genève avec pris en charge de la voiture à 23:30. Mon avion qui était censé arriver à 22:55 a eu un peu de retard et le temps de récupérer mes bagages je suis arrivé au guichet a 23:40. Pendant l’attente de mes bagages j’ai contacté l’agence de l’aéroport pour leur signifier que j’aurais 10 min de retard à cause du retard de l’avion. Et là: surprise de Noël. Pas de soucis ça fera 50 CHF en plus….. Donc 10 min de retard annoncé 5min avant mon heure de retrait prévu me coûte 50CHF. Du vol pur et simple. Et ne parlons pas de l’attitude au comble du désagréable de la personne au comptoir qui est clairement la pour vous extorquer tout ce qu’il peut avec un sourire narquois…. Ha et sans oublier qu’ils m’ont facturé 9CHF pour un équipement hiver que je n’ai jamais demandé et que les pneus hiver étaient inclus dans mon devis de base…. Bref une belle bande de voleurs. Et ils me demandent de me retourner contre la compagnie aérienne qui de la même manière se cache derrière le fait que le retard était de moins de 3h. Bref un lendemain de Noel comme on les aime… Finalement le prix initial proposé par cette compagnie n’est que la partie émergée de l’iceberg. A éviter comme la peste si vous voulez contrôler votre dépense de location.

I HAVE HIRED MANY CARS FROM THIS FIRM IN THE PAST, BUT NO LONGER AND I WILL BE TELLING ALL MY CORPORATE CLIENTS TO DO THE SAME, MANY OF WHOM ARE BASED IN THE ISLAND.

After a very bad experience at Green Motions Iceland we went back to Keflavik airport and rented a car at Eurocar. It only took ten minutes and the service was professional and friendly. I highly recommend Eurocar - Keflavik Airport
