local company, staff were very helpful, freindly and respectful, nothing was too much trouble in this very trying time, would recommend for anyone at this very terrible time as they made things a little bit easier to manage

Mam passed away in October last year and arranging a funeral was a new experience for me. I don’t live in County Durham but friends there were asking me who was I using - I hadn’t even thought about who to choose. I was offered advice based on their experiences but friends even had mixed views on the service they experienced with particular companies. In the end I selected East Durham Funeral Service, I knew they had a funeral home near to where my parents lived. I liked the fact they had a facebook page with many followers and some nice reviews. Did it cross my mind that they were a small family business and wonder if there would be any hitches along the way? yes it did, but in fact being a family business made it even more special and personal, and any concern about not being a large company went out of my mind the minute I first spoke to Ellen and then Tom. They talked me through the process of what I needed to do and how things would proceed. They were empathetic but not over the top with false condolences. We chose to use a celebrant and they put one in touch with us, Joanne D Benson from Caritas Ceremonies, who was fantastic. Between them they patiently put up with our indecisiveness and change of plans. When Dad passed away in July this year, there was no hesitation in using them again, and also Joanne, and based on the positive experience we had with them for Mam we were fully prepared in advance for this one. I absolutely recommend anyone thinking about who to choose for their loved ones funeral to seriously consider using East Durham.

I cannot express how grateful we are as a family that you looked after my Dad (Barry Coatman) for his funeral, you’re caring and compassionate and you really go that extra mile to make families feel so special. Every single one of you are an absolute credit. Nothing was ever any trouble and would drop everything to accommodate us when we needed it! We wouldn’t have known what to do without you all. I feel like we’ve made special friends for life. All of our family have used East Durham and prior to this Barry Lee which is going back some years! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Everyone commented on how excellent the whole service was and thank you for helping us organise the New Orleans Jazz band Dad got exactly what he wanted. From the very first phone call I made after Mams death the staff literally held our hands and guided us through the saddest time of our lives. Nothing was too much trouble. Everything we asked for was done and the little touches of driving Mam past her home when they collected her from hospital meant so much to us. We knew from then she was in safe hands. Special thanks to Tom for his support especially in the beginning.
The care shown to Mam and us whilst she was in their care was exceptional, we really can’t thank them enough. As a family we were able to spend time with Mam in the Chapel of Rest which gave us so much comfort and further memories to treasure, nothing was rushed and the staff accommodated our every wish. A special thanks to Tracey for her care and compassion shown to Mam it meant so much.
The funeral service was beautiful, so personal and summed Mam up perfectly. It was exactly what she would have wanted. A huge thanks to Charlotte. She is an absolute credit to East Durham and we couldn’t have got through without her.
Throughout the whole process we were kept well informed with care and compassion from Ellen and can’t thank her enough for her support throughout.
We can’t recommend East Durham Funeral Service enough for simply making our lives easier at such a sad time.

Truly fantastic! The support provided was personal and professional every step of the way. We know we chose the right family to work with. To say Dad received the best send off is an understatement; he got it twice over, and we couldn’t have done it without the support of these lovely, caring people. The care and support was second to none from the very moment we spoke. Everything was so efficient. The cars were stunning, the flowers were beautiful, and the staff were amazing, so smartly dressed and respectful. The celebrant and service were the best ever but most of all, he was looked after from start to finish which was so heartwarming to us all.

The family listened to us and took care of everything, which was a great help and support to us when planning this special day. Feedback from family members, friends, his work colleagues and neighbours has been overwhelmingly positive, all stating how amazing everything was on the day. As a family, we are so thankful, and we know he would have been so proud of what was achieved.

For something so hard to do as a family, we all cannot thank you all enough for what was achieved on the day. You supported us all on the hardest day of our lives. Professional and Respectful.
No one likes to talk about funerals but this family business are exceptional. They helped organise everything taking away the stress from our family at an already difficult time. From arranging songs, food and specific cars and dress, to out of hours visits to suit our needs. Actual funeral day was perfect and respectful. Amazing from start to finish and gave my dad the best send off he/we could have wished for.

Fantastic 10/10 service from start to finish ,We unexpectedly lost our Mam and did not have a clue what to do,The staff at East Durham done everything for us ,with kindness and dignity and compassion, We were contacted about every detail and it was done so efficiently and quickly , Tom ,Ellen ,Charlotte and the whole team were amazing and took care of everything ,They gave Our Mam the most beautiful funeral and we could concentrate on grieving her ,Thank you so much :)

Tom, Ellen and the rest of the team were so helpful, sympathetic to all the family's requests, and flexible to any changes throughout the whole process. They made what is a difficult time so much easier just by being there when we needed them and basically saying 'yes' to anything we requested, then making it happen. We could not have asked for a better service.

The team were very friendly and compassionate while very professional. The cars were beautiful and the drivers very reassuring when I was panicking that we would be late! The Orders of Service were beautiful - one person said it was the nicest he’d ever seen. Flowers were just what Mam would have wanted. Thank you very much for making a sad day very special.
