Unexpected €24 Charge After Returning Umbrella

I rented an umbrella in Copenhagen on December 5th for the advertised 48-hour period. The initial €2.68 payment went through, I picked up the umbrella, and then suddenly the payment failed on their side. I still returned the umbrella the same evening — less than 24 hours later — and even took a photo as proof.

Despite doing everything correctly, today (December 9th), I was charged €24.10. I’ve already left the country, and now I’m stuck dealing with emails and waiting for an explanation. This is honestly awful — why should I have to stress over this, chase support, and worry for days about unexpected charges?
After reading other reviews, it seems this is a common issue, which makes it even more disappointing.

UPD (10.12): Customer Success Associate, Florentin, responded and advised that the refund was issued and should be credited within 5 business days, hopefully, everything will be resolved soon.

UPD (13.12): I have received refund, the issue is solved.

I hired from the kiosk at the Maldron…

I hired from the kiosk at the Maldron Belfast City Centre Hotel, the £3.00 hire charge was deducted from my bank on the 13th November and the umbrella was returned later the same evening, less than 24 hours. On the 17th November an online transaction has been made from my bank for £17.00.

Additional charge for unknown?

Rented an umbrella from the Hilton Doubletree in Glasgow.
Returned it less that 24 hours later.
I have today received an additional £18 charge? Have contacted customer services.

11/11/2025 - Update. I have now been refunded the amount of £18 and also the rental charge. Unsure what happened - maybe a software issue not recognizing the returned umbrella?
I am glad i have notification on my bank account or this would of gone unseen.

Natalia was the best of help.i rented an umbrella but unfortunately it was stolen when i was out in town .Natalia was so helpful making sure the process was smooth and also got me a full refund .

Very helpful

I had accidentally tapped my card twice even though I didn't need the second transaction, however, Anna was sooo quick and helpful with my queries, it made the experience that much better!
The unbrellas were great too. Very lightweight!

Great Experience with Dripdrop Support Team

I recently had an issue with a rental charge after returning a Dripdrop umbrella slightly past the return window. I contacted their support team, and I was genuinely impressed with how quickly and kindly they responded.

Natalia from the team handled my case and agreed to process a full refund without any hassle. The communication was warm, helpful, and very customer-friendly. It’s rare to see such a smooth and human customer service experience these days!

Not only did I get my issue resolved, but I also appreciated the eco-conscious aspect of their service — it’s great to know that every rental contributes to tree planting through their Rain Forest initiative.

Highly recommend Dripdrop — both for their smart umbrella service and their excellent support team!

Schirm-Abzocke

Wir haben am 29.07. im NH Hotel in Düsseldorf einen Schirm geliehen. 3€ für 48 Stunden sollten es sein. da es die ganze Woche geregnet hat, haben wir den Schirm behalten und gingen davon aus, weitere 3€ für die nächsten 48 Std. zu zahlen. Jedoch wurden pünktlich nach 48 std. und einer Minute ohne Vorwarnung 17€ abgebucht und wir mussten den schirm unfreiwillig kaufen. Der Hinweis von der Rezeption war, dass man nicht für die Firma Dripdrop.io verantwortlich sei und den Schirm eben hätte zurückbringen und einen neuen buchen sollte. Das ganze Geschäftskonzept ist darauf ausgelegt, die Leute zu scammen!

Wie in der Anleitung am Stand beschrieben, ist die Ausleihe eines Regenschirms auf 48 Stunden begrenzt und lässt sich nicht automatisch verlängern. Leider wurde der Schirm erst nach Ablauf dieser Frist zurückgegeben, weshalb eine weitere Leihgebühr von 17 € berechnet wurde.

Wir bedauern sehr, wenn die Hinweise hierzu nicht deutlich genug waren, und haben Ihren Rückerstattungsanspruch bereits geprüft und die Erstattung erfolgreich veranlasst.

Abschließend möchten wir betonen, dass unser Geschäftsmodell keinesfalls darauf abzielt, unsere Kund*innen zu täuschen. Transparenz und Fairness stehen bei Dripdrop im Mittelpunkt – alle Gebühren sind klar an der Ausleihanleitung ausgewiesen. Sollten die Hinweise missverständlich gewesen sein, tut uns das sehr leid; wir arbeiten bereits an einer optimierten Beschilderung.

Drip Drop is a very good service…

Drip Drop is a very good service provider with A+ customer service. I was on holiday in spain and I lost an umbrella on a train, and they cancelled the charge on my card entirely. Not only that, they were extremely professional and passionate about their business. Major recommend.

Money taken from my Visa account despite having returned the umbrella.

We were recently in Glasgow and rented an umbrella for a few hours. When we returned to the hotel my wife placed the umbrella back in the stand and we both heard it click into place. The next day £17 was taken from our Visa account. We immediately contacted the hotel who said they would contact Dripdrop. Customer Service for Dripdrop were very quick to respond directly to us, apologized and arranged for a full refund. I think it would be better for all if Dripdrop placed a notice on their machines informing potential customers that £17 will be automatically taken from their Visa account if certain procedures are not followed.

Overcharged

I was in Dublin at StayCity and paid 3 euro for an umbrella for 48 hours. Now I can see, that in addition to the 3 euro I've been charged an additional 17 euro, despite returning it within the given timeframe.
Sad way to take advantage of your customers, but its a good lesson to NEVER rent any umbrellas in the future from Dropdrop.

I use Dripdrop and everything went…

I use Dripdrop and everything went well. A small problem because I didn't returned on time and they charged me, however with an email everything was sorted. I really appreciate they're response and we solve the problem very quick. Super nice team. All the rest was very practical. Thanks

In Kopenhagen een paraplu gehuurd. Goede kwaliteit en handig huur systeem. Achterliggend concept van aanplanten bomen aansprekend. Bij inleveren is iets misgegaan waardoor per ongeluk een groter bedrag is afgeschreven. Na contact met de vriendelijke service desk is dit gecorrigeerd. Prima service!

It was raining in Amsterdam

It was raining in Amsterdam, so I got an umbrella to go to the Van Gogh Museum. I stored the umbrella in a case that was located near the front desk. When I returned, my black umbrella had disappeared, and a blue one from another hotel had been left in its place. I wrote to the office, and Anne was very kind — they accepted the blue umbrella with no extra charge. They were nice, and I felt good about helping to grow more trees.

Great service and great Customer support

I rented an umbrella from our office building in France.
The customer support was extremely reactive, reassuring and extremely nice !
Never had I received such a lovely support mail :)
This type of customer care makes you want to rent more umbrellas :)

Exceptional Customer Service and Understanding!

I had a wonderful experience renting an umbrella from Dripdrop.io at the Abbey Hotel in Bath. Unfortunately, a sudden medical emergency meant I couldn’t return the umbrella as planned. The Dripdrop team was incredibly understanding and promptly waived the penalty. Outstanding customer service—thoughtful, considerate, and responsive. Highly recommend!

Used the umbrella hire recently on a trip to Dublin.
When we had an issue with a return Anne was very understanding and resolved the issue promptly.
Would definitely use the service again and recommend.
