I cancelled my van insurance policy…

I cancelled my van insurance policy within 24 hours of taking it out, before the cover had even started. Despite this, Doodle Cover wanted to charge me a £75 cancellation fee.

I emailed them disputing the charge and asking for an explanation. Two weeks later, I’ve received no response and still haven’t received my refund.

The customer service is appalling. Trying to get through on the phone takes nearly an hour, emails go unanswered, and getting your own money back seems to be an impossible task.

They were quick enough to take my money but seem in no hurry to return it.

Based on my experience, I certainly wouldn’t recommend Doodle Cover. Avoid the hassle and take your business elsewhere.

UPDATE – 14 October 2026

Interestingly, Doddle Cover managed to respond to this negative Trustpilot review within hours, despite failing to respond to my previous emails.

They claim refunds are processed automatically, yet 14 days after cancelling my policy, I still haven’t received a penny.

They’ve also justified their £75 cancellation fee as covering administration costs, without providing any breakdown of those costs.

It’s disappointing that a public negative review gets a quicker response than a paying customer trying to get their money back.

I’m still waiting for my refund and a proper response to my emails!

FINAL UPDATE – 17 October 2026

I can now confirm that I have received my full refund of £1,050, including the disputed £75 cancellation fee.

While I’m pleased this has finally been resolved, I’m disappointed that it took repeated attempts to contact the company, a formal complaint and a public Trustpilot review before the matter was settled.

I also find it interesting that Doodle Cover continues to justify the £75 cancellation fee in its public response, despite the fact that I have now received a full refund.

I appreciate the eventual resolution, but the poor communication and unnecessary stress have left me with very little confidence in this company.

I’m updating this review to be fair and transparent, so that other potential customers can see both the problems I experienced and the eventual outcome.

Cancellation Fee

The £75 fee helps to contribute towards the costs we incur if you cancel before cover starts. These costs include: the introduction fee we have to pay the price comparison site, our staffing costs of setting up and cancelling your policy and transaction costs / bank charges. We can't find your exact policy from "Chris" alone, but have requested further information so we can give you an exact breakdown of these costs if you'd like.

Refund

Regarding your refund, as above we can't find your exact policy from your first name alone but if you can reply to the request for information we'd be happy to look into the refund for you as based on the information you've provided this should be processed already.

Getting in contact

We aim to reply to all emails within a few days, but sometimes this can be longer. For anything urgent we would recommend calling us on 0330 124 5773 - Our average our call times are less than five minutes so this is often the quickest way to get this resolved.

Absolute scam

Absolute scam, don't trust the quote they give on comparison sites!
They are a middle-man rather than a broker and are unable to provide the level of cover or price advertised when it comes to it.
They even sound like a bunch of dodgy geezers on the phone!
Wouldn't be surprised if they are just mining people's personal information as they ask for a lot of it.
Definitely avoid, don't fall for the false quotes!
