Going to go with Plesk least they should be far better, dont bother with this company is my advice, cancelled my subscriptions to DirectAdmin honestly they aren't even worth the standard licence, they're shoddy!
Poor Support Experience
Directadmin customer support is very disappointing — rude behavior and unhelpful responses. Please improve professionalism and support quality.

Certainly, offering hosting resale based on DirectAdmin may require a bit more effort at the beginning than with the competing solution "cP…" (without naming it) that is currently the market leader.
Nevertheless, DirectAdmin currently offers a stable and customer-friendly price (we hope for a long time), unlike its main famous competitor which has almost annual price increases, which is not acceptable for us as a provider who serve customers expecting predictable prices.
Since the price of DirectAdmin is reasonable, I avoid asking too much their technical support for help with small daily issues.
I prefer to use the help forum, which is full of relevant content.
However, I recently took the initiative to seek help from DirectAdmin support via a few tickets for various advices, and I received excellent support that exceeded my expectations, even out-of-scope.
Thanks to Gedas for the priceless advices, as well as Jonas and fln for their recent quick and effective help.
I wish DirectAdmin a long life!
And I hope that our relationship, as well as the evolution of their offering, will allow us to grow and collaborate together over the very long term.
Bait and switch licensing and bad business
We have had two fundamental show stopping issues with Directadmin.
Firstly, last year they had a dispute with OVH over licensing and disabled all of the OVH clients using DirectAdmin without notice or explanation. We spent several days trying to troubleshoot at the CLI only to find it was never a technical issue and DirectAdmin had just disabled the licenses at OVH without explaining the issue.
Secondly DirectAdmin has moved many existing licenses to a legacy format that will not allow you to upgrade existing software packages such as MariaDB unless you pay for a new subscription license.
We have a couple of DirectAdmin servers left but are moving everything to Webmin.
Be Cautious
The software itself is great. However the company's ethics are in question now. The company sold us lifetime licenses with guaranteed upgrades. The software is still technically being upgraded but certain pieces are not being upgraded.
For instance it will not allow the newest versions of MariaDB or MySQL to be used. So now those license are stuck on a version of of MariaDB/MySQL that will soon be EOL. So now we have to buy a new monthly license in order to not run insecure servers.
I will probably continue to use DA because it is still cheaper than Cpanel. However I have had to change business my model because I stupidly trusted that DA would keep their word. So buy and use it but realize they could change the agreement at any time and they don't care what you think about it.
Migrating from Cpanel to DA
We have migrated over 2000 clients from Cpanel to DirectAdmin, and has been a great choice. DA offers the entire stack we need, and support has been good enough.

Excellent software. I have been using this software for years on private servers and I cannot complain. It's frequently updated, a huge active community for support and has all the features (and more) you might need for a personal server, scaling right up to multiple servers and many customers. It's cheaper than a few but dearer than the free ones, but you get what you pay for. Its versatile, extremely flexible with customisation and integrates well with 3rd party plugins and software. It's a must for resellers and hosting companies who value their time and money.
Forces you to delete your lifetime license
Very good product but sadly the management decided to turn any "lifetime licenses" into EOL licenses meaning you can't update the software anymore.
You can basically keep using the product as long as you don't update your server OS and packages which of course is absolutely insecure and madness.
If you want updates and new features you have to swap to their money subscription. Lifetime doesn't actually mean lifetime for them even though their policy and sales comtract wording was very clear when it came to "a lifetime of updates and support".
They didn't even try to find a loop in their policy agreements but instead are just betraying you from the license you bought.
Very sad to see auch a great product and company go down so badly.
Love DirectAdmin!
DirectAdmin is a fantastic control panel that continues to evolve with regular updates and responsive support. While occasional bugs can show up after new releases, the team is quick to address them. There's many things that DirectAdmin is doing far better than other control panel's like cPanel. I really appreciate the multiple theme options, the combined reseller and user access in one panel, and the way each domain is isolated under a user’s account as it keeps everything clean and organized. DirectAdmin also offers far more customization freedom than cPanel, which is a big plus.
One area that could use improvement is the DirectAdmin to DirectAdmin transfer process. Unlike cPanel’s more streamlined system, the current method of pushing all backups to the destination server and then manually restoring them feels outdated and time-consuming.
That said, DirectAdmin’s support is faster and more helpful than cPanel’s, and it’s quickly become my favorite panel to work with.

I'm a long long supporter of directadmin since 2006. My first server is based on celeron and my business grow together with Directadmin. I've bought lifetime license and appreciate for all the internal license provided to help our business. I might not agree on some things on handling lifetime license currently but will try to support them to the best of my ability.

Works great, have been using it for almost 20 years to my complete satisfaction! And if a bug is discovered, support is always available! Even on weekends and during holidays..

Een aantal geven slechte reviews, maar alleen omdat lifetime licentie uitgefaseerd wordt. Een licentie waar ze jarenlang profijt en velen zelfs veel winst van hebben gehad en voor een eenmalige lage prijs gekocht hebben.
DA is een prima bedrijf, zeer concurrerende prijzen vergeleken bij de andere 2 professionele panels.
Support via forum en/of ticket support.
Gemakkelijk te installeren en goede service.
Mensen die een licentie kregen bij hun server, zouden support moeten krijgen van hun server provider volgens het service agreement. Die doen dat vaak niet en krijgt DA de schuld terwijl de schuld feitelijk bij het gebrek aan support van hun server/vps provider ligt.
Men moet wat verder kijken dan de neus lang is.
En cPanel? Als je Mercedes wilt betaal je ook Mercedes (3x zo duur dus inmiddels).

If you're a Linux Administrator, DirectAdmin has no equal. It operates the way we think. I've run everything on my servers, from cPanel to CWP Panel and multiple OSS solutions. I love the control it offers—just a person, a machine, and unlimited permutations. It's pure Linux. Beautiful!

Just to get it straight, I worked five years with Plesk and over ten years with CPanel.
And still, at one point I thought "This is normal, the effort will pay later when everything is running smoothly, I'm saving money."
No, just! no!
Don't do this to yourself.
The Pros:
- Kind community (at least they are trying)
- Fast customer service
The cons:
- A buggy software that will sooner or later take the best of you.
- What will be considered as "teething problems" will later show as a deeply flawed software.
- The customer service seems to try, everyone of them, a little. Feels like building the wall of a house, stone by stone, while the work already done crumbles rock by rock.
- The smallest things not working will, over time, drive you crazy. This link doesn't work, here you need to search why the database is not syncing, there one crack, here one breakage.
- Direct Admin gives you an instruction that later on, will turn out as wrong.
- The Forum says "Do thing A". The FAQ says "Whatever you do, don't do thing A!!!! Instead do thing B, if this is not working thing C" In the end it will be none of it.
Since six days I'm trying with the help of the customer service, JUST TO GET ROUNDCUBE WORKING!!!!!
One employee rebuild it and said: "Now it's working!" It was working.. just not like it should. So another employee said: "I did this. So it should work now, but if not.. do this."
While the workaround the first employee created, didn't work anymore. So a third employee comes in and said: "How can we reproduce this problem?"
So you send videos and screenshots.. but no one looks at them. Followed by "I did this and that.. could you please provide [things visible in the provided screenshots and videos]."
I'll reprieve you of the rest of story. Just look at the Forum. If you want to spend your lifetime with the search for the cause of problems.. Go ahead.
Sometimes threads with four or five sites (ending WITHOUT a solution - and the customer left by himself), while on the Plesk community you barely see threads with a second site (short, kind, effective).
I wasted six days, 32 messages have been written (with a HIGH priority ticket), just because I wanted to save some bucks. While working alternatives have been around for decades.
Today I decided to go back to the working ones.
Feels like I can breath again, work again, be creative again.
Feels like freedom!
Can't trust them - bad business policies
While their control panel works for the most part, their sale and license terms can change at any moment and you can't trust them.
We bought 10 lifetime licenses with unlimited updates, but they have now changed this so that these licenses are now almost worthless. They suddenly decided to terminate the functionality even for those who had already invested in them. No notification, no email, no warnings.
A message about being a legacy license is displayed, and they will not update the MariaDB/MySQL server anymore. They say that their lifetime policy was bad, and now everybody should move to a monthly payment plan that is much higher, without a refund for those of us who invested/believed in them. Their excuse that it was a bad investment for them to let people buy licenses this way reflects bad business practices, and I do not trust them.
I would not choose DirectAdmin in the future.
Buggy functionality, Bad support...
I have used both cPanel and DirectAdmin. DirectAdmin is tedious. Funny enough, they have option to import a cPanel account from a cPanel to DirectAdmin, but they don't have any direct option in DirectAdmin UI to transfer an account from one DA server to another. If you wanna transfer from one DA server to another, it's a bit task. Moreover, the cPanel to DA transfer is also buggy. I was facing problem with the cPanel to DA transfer, raised a support ticket. They told me to transfer manually using CLI for the accounts which were failing.
And their support quality, Just forget that.
