Underwhelmed
We were really underwhelmed by Cooke Curtis' efforts to sell our house.
During the time taken to achieve a sale (6 months), it felt like Cooke Curtis were entirely uninterested in us as customers. We were told an estimate of 6-8 weeks to sell and after this period had ended and we had had no viewings for several weeks, we asked what the plan of action was and were told everything was fine and to sit tight. As time passed with no further viewings, we asked for a meeting and eventually were told the house was likely overpriced, though no admission of responsibility was made, despite us pricing the house as per their recommendation. We reduced the price, and things got moving again, but it felt like the onus was on us to make this happen, when we had expected to be led by the 'experts' in what to do and how to proceed.
We had to repeat information numerous times throughout the process before it was seemingly recorded in their systems, including after confirming details in emails. Most notably that we were splitting the chain of our sale and purchase, so there was no onward purchase for Cooke Curtis or our buyer to consider. This was communicated on numerous occasions and in multiple emails and yet we were still being asked if we would break the chain. Whilst on holiday with a 13-hour time difference and after asking for no phone calls during this period, we regularly received calls at 2am our time to check on the status of our onward purchase or wanting to know the name of our estate agent for our onward purchase. This was not only annoying but cost us money to repeat information we had confirmed before leaving in writing, and were assured would be 'at the top of our file'.
Towards the end, it felt like we were being bullied out of our own house by Cooke Curtis, who rang us to tell us that they had agreed with our buyer that we'd move out in 2 weeks' time. This was without discussing it with our solicitor, who was not ready to complete the sale that quickly. We were made to feel like we were being unreasonable, and were pushed and pushed to commit to a date, without agreement from our solicitor that she was ready. It felt like they were acting entirely for the interests of our buyer, rather than us who were paying them.
