Have had a really awful experience with christinalundsteen.com. I ordered four cushions costing several hundred euros directly from the designer’s official website to be delivered to the UK. Delivery was free and I paid using a euro bank account so felt I had a fair deal. However, after a week or so I started receiving emails from FedEx telling me that I owed £127.84 in duties and taxes, which I needed to pay in order to receive my items from Christina Lundsteen. I contacted Christina Lundsteen’s customer support by email and had to chase and wait a few days to receive a response, but when I did, I was told that duties and taxes were outside of their control. The message was that this was my problem. When I challenged this, Nicola, the representative from the company, advised me to call FedEx myself and negotiate with them. She advised that she felt the fees were too high but were essentially nothing to do with them. I pushed back at this, saying that there was absolutely no mention of these fees when I ordered and paid for my cushions and that this was a huge and unacceptable expense to expect a customer to absorb. I asked her either to deal with the fees herself or cancel the order and refund my money. After another gap in communication requiring me to chase, she got back to me saying she would cancel the order. However, she told me this would be treated as a return and I would have to wait till the cushions were returned to the company by FedEx.
To quote:
“I can understand your frustration but we really don’t control the duty and tax for the countries. And you chose not to collect the parcel.
So we still can’t refund any goods before we have them in our stock again, I hope that you can also see that we can’t give a refund with our security for the goods are back in over hands. Pls also see this from our part.
As soon as we have them back we will refund these for you.

I am outraged by this - it leaves me with no cushions and down hundreds of pounds and relying on a return over which I have zero control. In my opinion, this is theft. I have ordered items from many international retailers and never experienced this issue before. Companies need to explore and deal with customs and duty fees, not pass a completely arbitrary charge on to customers with no warning or transparency. This is a big company selling their items through Heals and expensive, luxury online stores. I’m shocked by how unprofessional they are, both in their policies regarding taxes and duties and their poor customer service. I feel I have been robbed.
