Checkmytax 

The Company was recommended by my staff union. I paid £25 for an initial review then a few weeks later I was asked for further information. I sent this then never heard anything for weeks. I tried emailing but this was bounced back. I am not as concerned about the £25 but more worried that they have so much of my information. I would never have used this service but felt reassured as it was advertised in my union correspondence!

Sadly this is yet another scam. Fortunately I only paid the £25 quick check fee but it still burns. Having heard nothing for 2 plus months it would appear they have 'done a runner' with our cash

I paid £75 on the 1st June 2026 to Checkmytax and i have tried on a number of occasions to call them on 0161 968 7300 but each time it was a recorded message. i also tried to email them at the email on their voicemail message - mel@############.co.uk - but the emails bounce back as undeliverable.
Complete scam!

Diabolical service.
Saw the advert in NARPO magazine and thought it was worth a shot as my tax code appears to change every year.
Paid £75 for the top rated service back in July 2026. Received a response a week later requesting more information, which I provided the same day. Then nothing!
Resent the information twice, called the office numerous times, but always got an answer service. Despite leaving several messages and sending loads of emails I never received any further contact from them.
Communication was shocking.
Now there is no web site and emails bounce. No indication or contact to suggest the company was closing down, but several reviews now state the company has ceased trading, that’s if it ever existed at all.
Claimed to be a member of EAP, guessing that was all lies too.
Director was down as William Rowe, but I bet you can’t get hold of him now, probably hiding out in some country using his ill gotten gains and sunning himself. Pay up you thief!
Total sham!

I paid £75 for a tax check, waited a month and got nothing back. Emails bounced and their phone lines were dead. Not even an IVR email or autoreply to say they’ve stopped trading.

The company was originally recommended on behalf of my workplace union, however even they weren’t informed that the firm has ceased trading either.

Don’t waste your time, money or effort - instead, get a local accountant or go direct to HMRC if you think there’s something up with the tax you’ve paid.

Thankfully I’ve raised a dispute with my bank and have clawed my money back.

This company is linked to The Tax Refund Company that shut down at the end of July. Not sure if anyone will ever get a reply as the offices are closed and there's no one answering emails or phone calls. The owner and director is listed as william rowe. might be worth emailing him directly.

started in may paid £75 had a little correspondence for them to get more details . Now nothing at all. They now have my money and details and you have no way of speaking to them clearly a scam

Decided to take the top package so that they would deal with everything (About £75 I think). Filled in all the form and waited, and waited, and waited until after nearly 5 months I contacted them. Their reply was HMRC required more details so I supplied the request information and waited another 2 months. Again the required more information from me which I uploaded again. Finally After 8 moths I received an email confirming that all my tax affairs were up to date and I was not due any refunds. Information I already knew but these scammers advertised that they could get you a tax refund. Keep well clear and definitely don't pay for the package where they do everything as clearly they don't. My advice is just check you own tax account at HMRC yourself, you'll get the same information that these are selling you!

AFTER READING A REPLY TO MY REVIEW (FROM CHECKMYTAX) STATING, AS MY TAX AFFAIRS WERE IN ORDER I RECIEVED A £50 REFUND. I CAN ASSURE YOU READERS I DID NOT RECIEVE ANY REFUNDS AND THE TOTAL I PAID FOR NOTHING WAS £75

Paid for the assessment then got a 'free' review & never received any money back afterwards.

Very frustrating. I have emailed them several times to stop pestering me whilst I investigate myself to which they completely ignore.

Take your fee, do nothing and don't respond, clearly a scam.

From my understanding- The Tax Refund Company is now part of CheckMyTax and therefore due to awful service, I am compelled to write this review. I have also give the same review for The Tax Refund Company.
I am hugely disappointed at the level of service I have received from this company. Initially the claim they submitted to me to sign was incorrect which I had to email and correct. Further information was required from HMRC which I provided. I heard nothing back from them for months. I chased the company about the claim and was told that HMRC were not responding to agents queries. This email was back in November 2025. I have subsequently chased the company again and I have received no reply. I am very concerned at the standard of service and indeed whether this company is legit. I will be emailing to cancel my claim with them and going somewhere else.

Completing the task was easy

Have used several times over the years. Application is straightforward and relatively quick. Have received a refund every time!

Just easy to do. Everything is clearly explained, and the to do list is really good idea

Very easy to understand

I have been using this service for several years and cannot fault them. They keep you updated with the progress of the check request. It is fast. I have been lucky so far and not needed to make a claim but I have every trust in them to make an excellent job of it.
Highly recommend this service.
