I booked a pre-purchase inspection with Carinspect for a Mazda CX-5. I chose them specifically to support an independent local business, but the service was completely unacceptable.
The inspector gave a "green mark" to almost the entire vehicle, only noting a minor visual issue with the steering cover. However, when I took the car out for a test drive immediately after, I found major mechanical flaws within 15 minutes:
The steering felt extremely stiff, mimicking a vehicle that had been in an accident.
The air conditioning never started cooling after 15 minutes, accompanied by a loud, clear ticking noise from the fan.
When I checked the inspection report, the odometer log showed they only drove the car for 2 km total. On the phone, I was explicitly told they would test the car at highway speeds (80 km/h). Driving 2 km at that speed takes less than 2 minutes, meaning a proper road test was never actually conducted.
When I raised a complaint, customer service refused a refund unless I provided a video or paid for a secondary independent inspection from a different mechanic to "prove" their inspector missed something. This is a completely absurd, bad-faith demand. I backed out of the purchase and took my deposit back from the dealership. I do not own this vehicle and have no legal right to take it to another garage, nor should I have to pay a second business to audit the job Carinspect was already paid to do.
They are using predatory, impossible conditions to avoid giving refunds.

Update:- Yesterday team emailed me refusal, today its in review again. CarInspect's response claims they are just following standard policy, but they still refuse to address the fact that their inspector only drove the car for 2 kilometers total. You cannot perform a safety diagnostic at 80 km/h in 2 kilometers. Furthermore, demanding that a customer pay a second mechanic to reinspect a vehicle they do not own is absolutely an obstacle. I am letting my bank handle the dispute.

Worst service I have ever experienced. I scheduled an inspection with them and ended up losing the car I was supposed to purchase because of their negligence.

When I requested the inspection, they were quick to take my money but then never responded. They falsely claimed that the inspection had been scheduled when it wasn’t. Because of this miscommunication, I was under the impression that the car was still available, until the dealership informed me a few days later that it had already been sold.

On top of that, they never performed the inspection and did not refund my money. Terrible customer service and leadership.

I was hesitant at first to pay online but the car seemed like an amazing deal, it was in another city and time was of the essence, so I took a gamble. I needed an inspector to go to the car for me and let me know if it was a good deal. I booked late in the afternoon and the car was inspected the day after. The inspection was really thorough and the inspector also called me to tell me everything about the car.

The service was quick and efficient. Really helped me during a quick purchase.

I paid for a professional pre-purchase inspection expecting exactly that — a professional assessment, not just a photo dump with zero critical thinking. The inspector completely failed to clearly call out that the vehicle was missing all rear headrests — a detail that ended up costing me hundreds of dollars after purchase.

CarInspect’s response? Essentially: “It’s in the photos, so it’s your responsibility to notice it.”

Let’s be clear — if I wanted to scroll through photos and play “spot the problem,” I wouldn’t have paid for an inspection service. The entire point of hiring a company like this is to have a trained professional identify issues that are not obvious at a glance or that a buyer might reasonably overlook.

What’s worse is their complete refusal to take any accountability. Instead of acknowledging that this should have been explicitly flagged in writing, they hide behind technicalities and claim nothing was “misrepresented.”

That tells you everything you need to know about how they operate:

* No attention to meaningful detail
* No real quality control
* No accountability when they miss something

This wasn’t just a minor oversight — it directly impacted the value and completeness of the vehicle I purchased.

Bottom line:
If you’re expecting a thorough, thoughtful inspection where someone actually advocates for you as the buyer, look elsewhere. CarInspect seems far more interested in protecting themselves than providing a genuinely useful service.

Recently I had excellent experience with car Inspector Rommel Agullano. I was so impressed with his knowledge, punctuation and passion. He checked almost everything on my "new" 3 years old car, test drove it and gave me a full report. I haven't encountered recently such a professional. Excellent job Rommel!

My first time using such a service and it was money well spent! The mechanic (Raphaël) scheduled the inspection time directly with the sales person and did a thorough inspection including taking the vehicle for a test drive, connecting a scanner to look for trouble codes, and checking things like the battery voltage. He even went through the carfax report provided by the dealer and noted a possible item of concern. Lots of pictures and a walk around video in the report. Called right after the inspection was complete to go through what he found and to elaborate on what was in the report. The vehicle had a number of issues that the dealer hadn't disclosed including a couple major issues which saved me a lot of money and future headaches had I gone through with the purchase. I would like to have Raphaël do all of my pre-purchase inspections!

Carinspect was Key
Bryan used his expertise to give me key information about a used vehicle I was looking at buying. Brian was clear concise and social. he gave great advice. He uncovered key issues that were not apparent. This was the driving factor behind my decision. The online report was incredibly useful and gave evidence behind Bryan's conclusions. It was all transparent and clear. I will definitely use this service again when considering large purchases such as a car - spend a smaller amount of money to avoid a bigger problem.

Very thorough and professional inspection with a comprehensive report and complementary verbal report accompanying it with simple explanations to asked questions using language that was easy to relate to, explaining potential consequences and benefits.
Even thoigh the sale fell through, i am very satisfied with this service, the inspector, and would use their service again.
