Not honest

I would respectfully say - DO NOT PURCHASE HERE! I went there after confirming an appointment. My mechanic turned up before me, which scared them. He confirmed the car was jump started in that moment! I find, dealerships who hear a woman's voice always think they can get away with m-der! My mechanic confirmed that the gearbox was on its way out, the scratches weren't covered properly (they weren't in the advert), there is corroding underneath and there is a leaking issue next to the engine... When this information was put to the company, only one staff member took it seriously. Another staff member said 'don't believe your mechanic, they all say that' - I said 'what does he have to gain?' - and was met with mumbling... They KNOW the cars are dodgy but lie online anyway, and I can confirm this as the car is back on sale online WITH NO WARNINGS EVEN THOUGH THEY KNOW IT'S NOT A SAFE CAR!! The 5 star reviews here I would question...

Update post response:
I decided the car wasn't for me because it was not like you suggested in the ad - in fact, it was in terrible condition, whether you keep on the lot or not - the ad is a lie. I decided not to buy from a company that didn't have the full service history as promised. I decided not to purchase from a company who displayed obvious signs of dishonesty. I would say AVOID THEM. At all costs!

Whilst we appreciate all feedback, your review appears to be slanderous on the premise of speculation and unconfirmed concerns.

We welcome all/any pre-purchase inspections.

Your mechanic, as an individual in the trade, would know that delearships can have cars stored for several weeks, which can drain the battery and therefore require a jump-start. This specific vehicle was later tested again and found the battery to have 75% health which is above average. The concerns you had raised from your mechanics synopsis (not a diagnosis) was investigated. Apart from a small coolant leak which we had missed and has since been addressed, there were no other issues found. Thank you for pointing this out to us. Please note, that this issue would also have been addressed if you proceeded to purchase, along with any other concerns that you may have decoided to raise.

You decided that this car was not for you, so there would be no reason for us to remove the ad.

We only sell cars that are fit-for-purpose and durable as per CRA2015. We offer an excellent warranty package to all of our customers, which is managed by a dedicated team to answer all calls and email enquiries for any such matters.

Customer Service Red Flags

Oh Dear. Have to agree with the negative reviewers the customer service level at CarGem is incredibly bad.
I made an email enquiry that was ignored. When I followed up with additional email I was advised that paperwork and full details were not at hand as the car was “new in” but I would be contacted when the relevant (general) information was available. Days passed without contact. I emailed again to politely chase. No response. I then sent a very polite chaser asking if they had received my previous questions to be told that the car had been reserved. For clarity the car is still showing as available both on AutoTrader and CarGems own website and would even allow me to reserve it. I had genuine interest but as soon as I started asking about number of owners and service history I was ignored until lied to. Annyl was the Sales Executive that was dealing with my enquiry, I’m sorry but far too many red flags here.

I agree, this is completely unacceptable! I have taken time to look into this complaint and conclude the below;

Firstly, I am sorry that we did not respond to your email after your initial enquiry. We don't make excuses for any shortcomings in our service, but we offer a genuine reason with prompt action.

Having perused all communications, it appears that there were several buyers interested in the same car that you enquired about.

Whilst our vehicles are in the preparation stage, we submit our ads online to gather interest, and when a reservation fee is taken, the ad will remain intact until the vehicle has sold, but no other reservation fees can be accepted until the current one has expired.

We have a large number of sales representatives who are all managing the same inventory. We operate a fast paced, and busy environment, and sometimes in the midst of the chaos, an enquiry/email can be missed. For this, please accept my apologiese.

We remain committed to all of our customers. If you are still on the market for a new car, please do not hesitate to contact us directly on sales@cargem.co.uk or cs@cargem.co.uk with the vehicle you are interested in, and we will make every effort to make sure you have a smooth experience.

Still no car :(

I purchased a car from this dealership on the 6th of September, and I am extremely disappointed with the experience. I was told I would receive the V5 within seven days, but to date, I am still waiting — meaning I also still don’t have the car.
Although sales team were lovely in person on day of purchase since there has been little proactive communication from the sales team, despite being told by after-care that they would reach out.

I’m left chasing updates while struggling without a vehicle. This has been especially difficult as I have three children under 4years old and I care for my mother, who relies on me to take her to and from appointments.
The only "compensation" offered has been that they will deliver the car once the V5 arrives — even though the dealership is only 15 minutes from my home.

Frankly, if I had known this would be the level of service, I would never have purchased a car here.
Very poor after-sales service and no sense of responsibility toward their customers. I would strongly caution others before buying from this dealership unfortunately.

It's unfortunate, that you had to wait so long for your V5 to arrive. We have on file that you were made aware of the V5 issue prior to commiting to this purchase, hence why you left the car with us to store whilst waiting for the V5.

I note that your review date matches the date you collected your car from us, along with the new V5, so this issue was resolved, yet you posted your 1-star review. I find this a little unfair considering we have continuously communicated the progress from start to finish, including any difficulties we faced, which was to be expected as we were at the mercy of DVLA's terms & conditions and their renowned slow pace.

In any case, i am glad that we eventually obtained the new V5 for you and you are now enjoying your car.

Cowboy outfit

Bought a car they said had new brake pads and discs fitted turns out only done the front . 300 miles after purchase (2 months) rear pads red warning light come on the dash but they won’t repair due to wear and tear!!! Absolute cowboy outfit !! Avoid these guys spend your hard earned cash elsewhere

You purchased your car from Cargem in July. After driving the car for nearly 3-months you complained about brake pads &Discs being worn. You were outside of your warranty period, and we gave some initial push-back for this considering that your complaint was regarding a "wear & tear" item, but still, we arranged for these parts to be posted out to you absolutely free of charge as a valued customer.

What is upsetting and "disingenuous" is that you accepted our gesture of goodwill but didn't honour your end of the agreement to revise your review.

We, at Cargem are genuine and reasonable people. We are passionate about offering the best possible service to all of our customers. It is situations like this where some people like to take advantage of our good nature and professionalism that makes doing business that much more difficult.

As a growing family-run business, we will continue to be passionate and offer the best service to our future customers.

I bought a car from CarGem in February

I bought a car from CarGem in February. Within two weeks the gearbox developed a serious fault. The dealer replaced the gearbox, but unfortunately the same problem has continued ever since.

I have now raised this under my rights as a consumer, but it has been very stressful and disappointing to deal with such issues on what should have been a reliable purchase. For such a large sum of money, I expected a car that was fit for purpose and properly repaired when problems arose.

I’m now having to consider my legal options if this isn’t resolved properly.

I would advise anyone buying from them to be very cautious and make sure everything is checked thoroughly, as my experience has been far from satisfactory.

Firstly, we are sorry that you experienced a gearbox fault soon after purchasing your car. Upon receiving your complaint, we acted immediately, booked your car in with a gearbox specialist, then subsequently had your gearbox replaced.

Following the above repair you contacted us again about another fault. This was investigated again and found an electrical fault of which was addressed straight away.

We released the vehicle back to you end of September and have not heard back from you since, so I can only assume that you are finally enjoying your car in the condition it should have been sold.
We appreciate your patience whilst this was getting resolved.

We have apologised for the inconvenience caused during the process of the repair, and I apologise again on this public platform.

We don't make excuses, but always present reasons along with prompt action.

We sell used cars, and we try our level best to address any issues prior to advertising. Unfortunately, used cars come with a risk of developing faults which can sometimes be missed during preparation. This is where our 5-star service comes into play. We offer a 30-days engine and gearbox warranty plus a minimum 3-months RAC platinum warranty, including breakdown cover which can be extended to up to 3-years with maximum cover. All of this with our excellent AfterSales Service from a dedicated team to take your calls and respond to your emails.

Cargem adheres to all rules set by Trading Standards with open invitations for regular visits, and we follow the rulings from Consumer Rights Act very seriously.

Once again, we are sorry that you had this issue with your car to begin with. You paid a lot of money for this car, and you deserve a good, reliable car. I am glad that we were able to resolve this issue for you absolutely free of charge.

I strongly feel that we handled this matter promptly and professionally. A 1-star review?.. a bit harsh considering the effort we put in to make this right for our valued customer.

Great work by Annyl. I recently bought an Audi A5 from CarGem and the experience was good. The whole team was welcoming from the moment I arrived. Annyl did a great deal for me on the car and made sure it was in good condition upon arrival and made sure to emphasise his support for me even after the purchase if I ever needed anything else from them.
