St John’s college’s Mount Pleasant construction site, since 09/2024, has obscene amounts of noise coming from it, disturbing nightshift emergency services workers trying to recuperate during the day, and other local residents trying to enjoy their personal space.
The overpaid, soon to be retired pensioners at the college who are in charge of capital development projects are so out of touch, hiding in their academic ivory towers.
No doubt the funding for this, and all their other developments, has come from questionable colonial sources.
This disturbance started in 09/2024

Awful institution. Still a colonised zionist racist mentality. Eg exhibiting the racist coloniser Balfour as a hero.
Dis0laced a Palestin8an from their housing and gave to an IDF reservist.

The University of Cambridge has hired untrustworthy people who make it look less credible. For example, there is Martin James Burton, Master at Sydney Sussex College, who in his previous role as co-chair of Cochrane, made up and spread fake allegations about founding board member Peter Gøtzsche regarding bad behavior, harassing others, and engaging in crime. Even though independent legal counsel exonerated Peter Gøtzsche and found no wrongdoing by Gøtzsche , Martin James Burton made the decision to fire Peter Gøtzsche from Cochrane, which caused a massive uproar in the medical and scientific communities. Burton's actions and leadership led to the ultimate demise of Cochrane. That may repeat with Cambridge and have negative effects on people throughout the university.

Undergraduate study at Cambridge (doubtlessly Oxford, St Andrews etc too) is based on an applicants ability to bring in money.

Their attitude is cynical in the extreme. My daughter applied. Aside from going through UCAS, she had to fill in applications for the Cambridge Uni and the college she wanted to attend. She got to pay extra for this, but more importantly was stressed and wasted a lot of time on it when she had end of year exams to do. Thankfully, her results were excellent, no thanks to Cambridge.

At post-grad level, I have no doubt it is good. For anyone thinking about applying for undergraduate study, avoid this circus and find somewhere that values academic merit and doesn't just want to rip you off.

I don't think the University of Cambridge is that much bothered in a child's intellectual ability any more. Even if they have an outstanding academic record. It's all about the money. And contributing to much of the university staff's opulent life style. And if a wealthy Mummy and Daddy or the bribing super-rich can't prop them up. They're not interested. Most of the rest of the population are being relegated to a sub-culture.

i can judge based on a viewing visit only. i came to cambridge in the 90s to see what studying engineering would be like. he showed me round and ended the visit by telling me ‚foreign students don’t usually do well here‘. not sure if he was being just xenophobic or xenophobic and sexist, but as i went on to get two degrees in my field at another british university, it obviously wasn’t accurate. hope they have addressed mindsets like that since, for everyone’s sake

Do not believe in several lies
1-Colleges are not the same. Location differences means either a 5-min walk to lectures of 40min cycle.
Also scholarships and hardship funds are more plentiful in richer colleges
2- Do not believe 'porters are friendly'--they are snobbish and arrogant, very mean to students and tourists, somehow thinking they are a superior spieces. They chase visitors away and sometimes lie about directions. When greeting college fellows they change their faces to a smiling and friendly one, so very double standard.
3-Some colleges are very white, British and exclusive. International students, do not apply to central colleges because mean talks will be going on behind your backs and not easy to make friends without biases towards home country.
4-Some courses very badly designed, but people still come for the name.
Overall, don't regret not getting in etc. because many dark sides exist.

With a full set of A* predictions at A level, my son has dedicated himself with a passion to academic achievement and Cambridge was his first choice of university. Despite ticking multiple boxes by his head teacher’s account, he didn’t even get an interview for selection. Can anyone explain why he never stood a chance? Was he discriminated against for being disadvantaged by having a second generation immigrant background and being raised in a single parent, low income family or because he is privileged to attend a selective grammar school and lives in the affluent Home Counties?

Wouldn’t ever support them. Useless, clueless and worthless, avoid at all costs.
