I had a very disappointing experience with BackgroundChecks.com. The process took several weeks to complete, and even then, the report was closed without any effort to reach out to previous employers for proper employment verification.

Additionally, the education verification was marked incomplete with the explanation that the institution is not part of the National Student Clearinghouse (NSCH) database. This raises serious concerns about the effectiveness of the service. If you are unable to verify basic education and employment details, it defeats the entire purpose of using a background screening company.

Overall, the service lacks thoroughness, accountability, and reliability. I would not recommend this service for critical background verification needs.

This company was bought out by another company and moved to another platform but kept the same name on the new platform. I now have no way of accessing the records/data paid for on the old platform on the this new platform. I see this as an extreme disregard for customers who used backgroundchecks.com previously and now cannot access ‘paid for’ services.
This would be a ‘zero’ rating but I didn’t have that choice.

Very unfriendly user support. Also blocks anyone (US citizen) living remote outside USA from doing a background check.
I suggest you use another service.

I used backgroundchecks.com and was hit with a random $98 fee I didn’t expect. When I contacted support, I got a templated reply pointing to a footnote where this was “disclosed.” That notice is buried and non-obvious. If a fee meaningfully changes the price, surface it where decisions are made—use a clear pop-up or inline alert before checkout, not fine print after the fact.

The product may work, but surprise fees erode trust. Please make pricing transparent and unavoidable to miss. Until then, this feels like a gotcha, not a customer-first experience.

Such a difficult service/company to use. From randomly locking me out of my account and it taking multiple attempts to getting access restored, to reports taking an inordinate amount of time 'just because', to wrong names on reports, to the website not working so that I can't actually send out any requests. If you have other options, I'd try them.

This company got my candidate mixed up with someone of the same name. They accused him of having late payments on a mortgage and car loan that he knew nothing about. It created a lot of confusion and alienated my candidate. Very sloppy work.

Absolutely a scam. Waste of money. Do not use this service. They charged me twice for some reason. Refused to refund me and found nothing on my record which is not true. This place sucks and if i could give them no stars i would.

This is a scam, they showed me a price, and after a few days, I saw that they charged me triple that. I called and they said those are court fees and they can't know in advance how much the courts will charge. Basically, I am giving them a blank check and they can charge whatever they want to.

Have used for a couple years as they bought the firm we used prior. They've been extremely unreliable, unprofessional, and regularly have delays without any notice or updates. We'll be moving on to a different provider in the very near future. Save yourself some time, trouble, and money and go with someone else.

I never got any report. It is scam. They never finished my "credential" process

Why must I even leave 1 Star for this horrible company? I needed a quick copy of my Driving Record to email to an Apostille in D.C. to be sent overseas. Background checks.com sent me an incomplete report showing both my name and birthdate could not be verified! I had to have a friend receive the paper copy from the DMV in my home state to be sent to D.C. for Apostille. This cost me a lot of time that I did not have! My home state DMV found both my name and birthdate for $5. Background checks charged me $49.99 for a worthless document. I phoned customer service and they refused a refund. These guys are CROOKS! Now, I’m having to open and persue a claim with my credit card company to get my money back!

This company proves to be excellent in customer service, information that is clear and concise, and timely response to customer concerns. Thanks to all of you!

Horrendous company. They have a nice website and seem professional. They state "typically 2 business days".
It has now been THIRTY DAYS my employment candidate has been waiting for these people to "verify credentials".
How is this even legal?

What a terrible experience.
As a staffing agency, i sent out the link to the candidate (you cant even see what emails are still outstanding) giving you a wild guess as to how many people responsed of them all.

Their instructions on how to fill everything in, was so unclear to the candidates that 4 of them dropped out.

Their customer service reps are THE ABSOLUTE WORST. they dont know anything. they state to the candidates: if you have trouble call us.
They do, and then get told they cant be helped as theyre the candidates and not the one ordering the check.

also: their ''verification'' department is taking their sweet time with verifying. its been almost a week and i still cant do anything.

AVOID THIS SCAM COMPANY.

This is the most frustrating company to do business with. I think they have like two people working for them and make it seem like they are much bigger than they are. Just look at all the negative reviews and you will know you are not the only one pulling your hair out from dealing with them. They do not return messages and are incapable of fixing issue you will run into.
