Am I being scammed by "AVG" ?
AVG Security Products are good, but I have huge security concerns about their renewal and bank-card management processes.
My subscription for ULTIMATE (ten device) runs to Dec 2024. Payment will be taken in Nov 2024, but I cannot find out the cost. In the last few days (early Oct 2024) a persistent pop up urged me to renew AVG ULTIMATE VIP (one device). The most expensive option was recommended. "Buy now and make big savings". I do not have this product. Another "AVG" pop-up told me that my system is not linked to AVG software. Very odd, I've been using AVG on the same system for years.
I decided to check my AVG account. I tried to delete my bank card details, but only update is allowed. I entered a new card and left the "save-card" box unticked. I logged out, logged bank in, but the card was still saved. Apparently, only the old card information is not saved. Very bad security practice. Scam? Or are AVG trying to extract my money even earlier and for the wrong product?
I tried AVG help, but it has been improved to an Artificially Stupid (AS) system. Last year AVG clearly gave a phone number for help with renewals, and their telephone support was good. It seems that TRUSTPILOT may be the only way of contacting AVG. If AVG don't like this post, tough. I would have spoken to them privately if they had given a phone number. I like AVG products, but for a "security" company their renewal and bank-card management processes reek of (false) scam. I don't think it's malicious, more likely sloppy management at AVG.
