Here’s why: just hold your breath: last updated 5 years ago!
If in the middle of the night you want to turn it off or turn on, be sure to get blind, because these clowns didn’t heard of Dark Mode.
It doesn’t show speed on your phone, doesn’t show servers that are currently working…. It’s literally worst app can imagine in 2024.
For the price we pay we go nowhere close to good stable connection.
Avoid at all cost.

I purchased a one-month membership to travel to China and be able to use the internet. The VPN did not work even for a single second, even after trying multiple times and servers.
The worst is the customer service. They just wash their hands and do not provide any help or follow up.
Stay away from these scammers.
Long since dead - it used to be good years ago, now it's dire.
Historically, Astrill was the best VPN for users in China. But they quickly grew, stopped investing in the service (it's now out of date and rarely gets past the golden shield firewall in China - and EVERY western service recognises that the IP addresses are a VPN, so forget Netflix, or any of the other streaming services - it even gets blocked by BBC Live Player!!!) and so it's an absolute car crash joke of a service now.
If you have to contact their "support" - it's a bunch of people paid a dollar an hour, recruited from Fiver - and there's only 7 of them for 24x7x365 coverage. Check it out. Look them up on LinkedIn and see for yourself.
I made the mistake of buying an annual contract. Within 6 weeks after my last renewal, the service fell apart and stopped working COMPLETELY. Talking to the support staff was a waste of time. I filed 52 tickets, and didn't get one single reply. Even now, the service doesn't work. Guess what - ZERO REFUNDS POLICY.
When I was on a monthly deal, it worked tollerably. Upgraded to the annual pass (or it's just too expensive) and it just died.
Total fraud company. You can't contact anyone senior. You can't escalate. You just get cheated.

The service used to be okay. But when you have a technical problem, the support people are absolutely useless.
Here are the facts about this company. It's a virtual setup - no office, claims to be a Lichtenstein company with some nonsense about privacy protection. It's actually registered in Seychelles for tax reasons. The real name of the company is VELOXEE SYSTEMS CORPORATION.
All staff are remote (mostly based in Pakistan, with some in Mauritius) where they are paid peanuts and of course give the consumer the appropriate level of service.
The technical support staff, on the little chat window, are able to do nothing more than regurgitate the support docs on the website. Anything more than this and they are useless.
I'm now 3 days without any service. I can log in on any friends account and it works fine. My account *magically* still doesn't work. Why? Who knows? Is it because I've recently just paid for a 12 month service contract, and I have these support staff pointing out there's a no refund policy? Well. That's how it looks to me. Like a SCAM.
A complete waste of money - avoid
They claim to provide VPN access in China😂. They take your money and service level is non existent with connection speeds so slow that timeouts are very common. Many times, it just does not work!
Stay away from Astrill. They don't deserve your money
I must warn potential users to steer clear of Astrill's VPN service as my experience with it has been nothing short of a nightmare. Despite their bold claims of unlimited bandwidth, the service falls miserably short. The speed is so agonizingly slow that even attempting to stream videos at 1440p or 4k resolution is an exercise in futility. Adding insult to injury, a significant number of their servers simply don't work, leaving users stranded without a stable connection.
I would've liked to post a screenshot but it's not possible here, but the servers don't even respond to the speed and ping test of the app.
And let's talk about the app – or should I say, relic. It's clear that Astrill has abandoned any semblance of development, with the app languishing in neglect for years. There are no updates, no quality of life improvements, nothing to suggest that they care about providing a decent user experience. Attempting to use the iOS app is an exercise in frustration, as it often freezes during login with no option to cancel, leaving users stuck in limbo until it decides to give up.
In short, it's trash.

Astrill shut down my account for no reason and asked us to provide lots of proof to reactivate our account, they will not give us a refund after we apply to cancel our account. We have switched other VPN product, never bought ASTRILL

I think the workers stopped working or went on strike, it used to be good, now the prices increase are the most expensive prices on the market by miles. But the service is shocking, switching servers non stop and nothing, I will not be renewing! unless its 10 usd a year like its worth.
Pay more for worst service
I used to think the more expensive a service was, the better it would be. The exact inverse is true for Astrill VPN!
Poor customer service. Mislead me on features offered by AstrilVPN. Unlike every other VPN service (I've tried 10) out there they do not offer refunds at all... Also compared to other VPNs their service is 5x to 10x more expensive!

The speed and performance of the VPN is absolutely garbage. The iOS app... it's not even worth the time to describe how awful it is. Just stay the f away from this VPN. Set up your own with Outline and AWS Lightsail.

First, they don't offer any trial, there is no refund or return policy. If you complain that speed is slow, they would never ever accept it, and believe they are freakin perfect. Their customer support representatives are not only in a rush but also very arrogant.
Please avoid this crappy company at best.

Usually works without any problems … but this time it’s appalling. Cannot use it for more than 10 minutes before I have to exit and start again ... and again … and again. Tried to get help from their online “support” but was told that it is not a problem on their end and I should use a different server or device. Thanks for nothing … you get $27:50 and I get nothing.

After their website malfunctions and they double-charge you, they will lock you out of your account for 11+ days with no communication and no updates about what is happening.
If you can possibly choose any other VPN option, do that in a heartbeat. This is obviously a horrible and evil company.
Bad customer support
I wasn't able to connect the major servers and I thought their is an issue with my account instead of the service. So I contacted their support team and they kept me on hold for more than an hour and didn't resolve my issue as well.

Non-existent refund policy! I downloaded and subscribed because it worked for me in China for a South African IP address, but since then the IP address they used is now blocked in South Africa. All they could tell me was that they are working on it!

It does not work and they refuse to give any kind of refund. I purchased this VPN to access English TV abroad, it did not work. I immediately contacted customer support. They said these kind of websites don’t allow VPNs to work (untrue, I have used other VPNs before but read somewhere this was good, probably by the owner as it absolutely is not good) DO NOT allow yourself to get ripped off like I did. TERRIBLE company.
