Forget digital services
They’re still in the 2000s. Their digital and mobile services are non-existent. If you want to change your mobile phone or address you’re not allowed to change that online but you need to go to a branch! Equally if you get locked out or have your account deactivated you’re again asked to visit a branch - hard for an abroad resident.
In my case even that isn’t possible as there’s a lack of knowledge, expertise and professionalism where I opened the account in 2002 (Ioannina branch). They are consistently rude and claim that isn’t their job and I should reach out to the call centre. A vicious circle with no ending.
SCAM - ATM display designed to trick you
This bank designs its ATM displays to scam you. It has you choose between local currency or exchange rate (which is a terrible rate) on one screen, and then on the next screen it repeats that choice but in a different design so you get confused and accept the exchange rate instead. Total ripoff, purposely designed to trick you. Avoid at all costs.

Called to ask if I had an issue with my Visa card as it keeps getting declined on Amazon. Saturday it took them 5 mins to confirm there was no issue. Called again on Monday to double check because after following steps suggested by Amazon payment was still declined. Took them 32mins to answer the same question. Card has no issues.
Two days later after going through all the possible troubleshooting steps with Amazon I call back Alpha Bank who tells me yes….for safety reasons they declined payment. 1hr later and transfer from department to the next and they still can’t find the relevant department to remove this ‘safety’ restriction. Comedy of errors

FAILURE to implement a bank to bank transaction. Alpha Bank is generally a serious failure, and reminds me why I moved from Alpha to Citibank Greece in 1990. Came back to Alpha Bank as I did not have a convenient alternative. WRONG MOVE. Now - I attempted to send €1000 to Barclays Bank in Frankfurt, paid €3.30 for instant transaction. More than 24 hours later the funds are on 'hold' with no explanation as to why. The pitiful e-banking website has no means to communicate (other than the life draining experience of the landline 210-326 0000). The only alternative is to lodge a complaint on-line and perhaps in a week or so you'll receive a nearly uselesss response. I tried it once and the answer was "Following your message to the Bank and regarding your request, we confirm that it has been settled on 03/07/2024" - which in fact did nothing to cure the pathetic Viber security code issues. Next time in Athens I will go to EuroBank to see if they can offer a plausible alternative. Unfortunately HSBC has sold their network to PanCreta bank (who ever heard of them before today?). Arrghhh - what does it take to find a responsible and professional bank in Greece!
INTERESTINGLY >> On the Alpha Bank website ".../retail/Support-Center" at the bottom there is a section "Getting in touch" with 6 possible selections. Only 1-4 & 6 work. The 5th is entitled "File a complaint", but does not work as the link is missing. Tells a lot about a bank that is not TRULY interested in its clients.
Be Extremely Careful when using their ATMs!!!
Dreadful atm machines that confuse customers with 11% interest charges on a currency conversion - will never use again. They use the term “local currency” which makes a people (especially tired travellers) think they’re choosing the euro option.
Cost me 25 euros for one transaction 🤬
Alternative machines are far more easy to understand. I used alpha because I thought banks were more trustworthy - never again.

Starting from costumer service, this bank is the worst of all the global banks I had transactions with. Useless people dealing with your money! Why don’t you send the review I agreed with on the telephone? I doubt if you ever do cause otherwise you will all be fired ! Unemployment is what you all deserve in this bank !
fraudulent charges unreturned as required by law
I noticed unauthorized charges on my Alpha Bank visa debit card on 8/1/2024 and sent a request for return of the 45 euros fraudulently charged to my account on 10/1/2024. I received a viber confirmation from Alpha Bank's fraud department acknowleding receipt of my request on 23/1/2024. I have spoken to Alpha representatives over a dozen times in the past 4 and a half months and all customer service reps promising a resolution in a week. BS!! As other posters have stated here this bank and it's employees are incompetent, indifferent or liars. A dog sh!t bank. Their CEO Vassilios Psaltis is a useless, fool oblivious he is leading a crooked bank brazenly breaking the law!

Zero customer service
Walked here from Afitos to exchange money. The staff were not all with customers and took time before they approached us. I was told no i couldnt exchange and to use the ATM outside to withdraw money. When i questioned why i couldnt exchange i was told to use the exchange in Afitos - there isnt one only euronet ATMs which charge a fortune. Do they want us to spend our money in their restaurants bars and shops? NO. You are not helping tourism

Εμένα εκτός όλων των άλλων μου μετέφεραν τα χρήματα από κλειστό λογαριασμό στου πρώην συζηγου χωρίς να ενημερωθώ.
Οι χρεώσεις τους είναι από άλλο κόσμο κι όσων αφορά όψεως, επιχειρηματικό λογαριασμό είναι συνέταιροι κανονικά.
Τραγικοι, έτσι πλουτίζουν εις βάρος μας.
Και η εξυπηρέτηση Άθλια.

If something goes wrong, there is no way to solve it. Terrible service. The problem is that they ignore our complaints. They go on as if everything is fine.

Don't try to communicate with them if you have an issue to resolve. Nobody answers!
You are on the waiting line for 30 minutes and if a representative answers, they transfer your call to wait another 30! Do yourself a favor and stay away from this bank. Use another instead.
They also charge you with useless fees without asking (for example 12 euros for a bonus card programm)
I completed the complaints form twice but guess what... nobody called me!

I've been on the phone for 22 minutes, waiting for someone to answer my call, until they hanged up on me ... again! It's the second time!

I want to express my sincere dissatisfaction with the way this bank operates on many occasions I have issues with this bank and I am seriously considering to cancel my account with them……they automatically take money from my one account to pay my other accounts fees without asking before they charge me because of this I considered to cancel my one account so as I don’t pay many fees for having two accounts with them, I called the customer service on three different occasions in a 4 month time frame giving them time to cancel my account but I never got a reply from anyone so I went into my ebank and canceled my account by myself (not sure if I have deleted it, I’ll find out soon as if not I will be charged without my consent once again)…..another problem the cards they provide break really easily (I have broke 3 in total and have been charged €10 every time I need a new one and no it’s not the way I handle the cards as I have other bank cards and have never had any issues)……I needed a receipt of something that I paid for and I couldn’t find it on my statement so I called the bank a couple of time’s until a helpful guy answered he kindly sent me the receipt but when I got my statement start of the next month I saw that I got charged €5 for a statement that wasn’t even printed….last straw this evening I went to one of the ATM’s to deposit some money into my account but the machine was out of operation so I drive to the other side of Larnaka to the other branch and guess what the same thing over again so now I won’t be able to pay my bills thanks to ALPHA BANK!!!! Also my husband never activated his ebanking codes and when I called the bank to give us a code they said if we want new codes they will cost €10.
stay away from them
I have my salary account in Alpha Bank so unfortunately I have to deal with them. Everything is wrong about this bank:
- they charge basically for everything, even for simple things that other banks do not.
- insanely high fees to transfer funds to other banks.
- Their attitude is like you owe them and you are obliged to hold an account with them.
- Customer service? well, mostly they are saying you will be forwarded to a colleague and they hang up.
- They will try to trick you to sign for services with hidden fees.
- They won't allow you to transfer your money if they think that the recipient is a crypto exchange, not even through SEPA in Europe.
- Always-always-always read carefully before you sign anything with them.
Do not forget that you have the right το "declaration of withdrawal" within 14 days for every product you buy or service you sign in Greece. No questions asked. Alpha Bank will never mention that right of yours and never give you that form (against the law). After you insist on their obligation, they will book you an appointment after (guess what) 2 weeks.
If you are a foreigner, go away !
