Paying extra for 2 child's car seat and booking ahead of time with ages their should have been more appropriate seats available, the ones given were in shocking condition uncomfortable and missing the anchor point straps!! The van has anchor points and purchase of car seats come with them.
The beds were extremely uncomfortable knowing 6 people in a camper may I suggest having an option to a permanent mattress in back instead of the seating.

Long long process time. The van wasn't ready for us the place was empty and so no line up and we waited 2 hours into our day.the van had some functional errors.
The vans speedo was out more than 10%

On check in - Jarod was extremely rude, spent no time showing us how to work the different systems in the motor home, nor how to assemble the beds etc, he clearly was not interested and was rushing. On signing the waiver agreements etc he didn’t even let us read the contract, just said that’s standard stuff just sign here ….

It was great that I was attended as soon as it was 8 am. I would appreciate if the vehicle was ready with the child seat that I requested. It took a while for the child seat to be given, I requested for the biggest and a smaller size was given, I ended up not able to use it.

We rented a Maui Cascade 4-berth for our South Island road trip in September and had a great experience. The motorhome was in excellent condition, and everything functioned properly for the whole trip. It came equipped with everything we needed, so we never felt we were missing anything on the road.
The video guides were really useful. They made it easy to get comfortable with the vehicle and its systems before setting off.
Luckily, we never needed to contact Maui about any issue, which says a lot about how well the vehicle was prepared. Highly recommended.

Maui advertises luxury and newer vehicles, but our experience did not justify the premium price. Compared with the Apollo vehicles we saw, we could not see a meaningful difference to justify choosing Maui. We ended up paying around $1,000 extra without seeing the extra quality or value we expected.

Even more disappointing was the lack of support when things went wrong. Calling for assistance did not get us the practical help we needed, and we were left waiting until morning. When your rental vehicle is both your transport and accommodation in an unfamiliar country, that is simply not good enough.

The manager’s response left us feeling dismissed, with little concern for the difficulties we faced as international tourists. We needed help, clear communication and someone to take responsibility.

Advertising a luxury experience means little if the vehicle and customer service do not meet those expectations. Based on our experience, the extra money was wasted.

My advice: don’t rent Maui expecting the premium price to guarantee a better vehicle or better support. Compare other options carefully. We would not rent from Maui Christchurch again.

Awning came out as we were driving on the open rd, bent the arms and took time to secure it. Hadnt used it previously. Hot water barely warm. Rear bed is super uncomfortable using the cushions. Lay out of 6 berths needs updating, compared to the Euro fleet they are very old fashioned.

This was a terrible car rental experience. I had filled out the online information beforehand—which the official website claimed would save 30 minutes—yet upon arrival, the process still took over an hour, just like the old days. The vehicle walk through was very perfunctory; I didn't even have time to inspect the car thoroughly. The inside of the car was filled with the smell of food, and the vehicle model wasn't new. Once on the road, the vehicle was incredibly noisy, with the feeling that many items—such as the oven tray and the fold-out table—weren't properly secured. While they didn't fly out, the rattling severely impacted the driving experience. I later discovered a broken drawer that wouldn't lock at all—specifically the one containing the cutlery. It popped open while I was driving, though fortunately, no one was hurt. The return process was equally bad and time-consuming. I have no issues regarding race, but it seemed that every problem I encountered involved Asian staff members who were excessively lazy, gave unclear explanations, and appeared unfriendly (though that is subjective). When I mentioned the broken drawer upon returning the car, the attendant showed no surprise and no interest in understanding the issue, simply moving on to ask about the vehicle's exterior condition. Finally, as the last shuttle bus was about to leave, I repeatedly asked how much longer the process would take; for a professional service, how could the answer be "I don't know"? I asked at least three times and still received no clear answer.In the end, I was forced to part ways with my family and leave, only to be told—just before the shuttle bus departed—that the paperwork had suddenly been completed. This was truly unprofessional and unfriendly; I would absolutely not recommend this service to any friends looking to rent a campervan in New Zealand.

Reflecting on the entire experience, the only person who truly demonstrated the professionalism expected was the bearded gentleman driving the shuttle bus; he was very friendly, and the shuttle itself was impeccably clean. If not that shuttle person, i only gave 0 star to all service.

Excellent experience, the motorhome was very clen and in great condition. The company was great to deal with from booking to return the vehicle.

The motorhome was handed over in good shape and the staff guided us thoroughly on how to operate the equipments and vehicle. The return process was seamless as well.

A few improvements can be made to make the drive and stay more comfortable in the motorhome:
1. Improve on Apple CarPlay connectivity via USB as there were several occasions where it disconnected while driving. Suggest to consider installing Bluetooth connection for CarPlay.
2. Install additional clothing hooks in the toilet and inside the motor home
3. Provide longer water and waste water hoses as some dump stations are quite small to navigate

The indian girl staff who supposed to brief us about the van only show us the basic function of the van , and all of our questions about the van she just asked us to watch YouTube , and we seek help from other kind staff that tried to help us showing details of the van, the laziness of one of your staff make us figure out everything about the van by our self. We didn't pay for such kind of treatment . Hope you can do better next time .

Ease of pick up and drop off fast and efficient great customer service. The only disapointing thing was the battery had little reserve when free camping internal lighting drain battery very quickly otherwise everything was great would definitely hire again and recommend brand

The motorhome pick-up process was remarkably fast. We were very pleased with the attentive staff who assisted us. The vehicle itself was found to be exceptionally clean and tidy. Furthermore, the drop-off procedure was equally swift and efficient. Overall, the impressive infrastructure contributed to a very positive experience.

We rented a 6 berth Maui campervan from Christchurch for two weeks in winter with 4 adults. This was not our first time with Maui, and we would happily rent from them again.

Booking through the Maui website was straightforward, with easy comparison of vehicles and prices. Pre arrival instructions and online pre check in were also clear.

We received a newer vehicle, under 2.5 years old. Overall condition was very good. There were some exterior battle scars, as expected with rental vehicles, but the interior and kitchen equipment were clean. Pickup was smooth, with friendly staff who took us through the vehicle. The airport transfer was also straightforward.

For 4 adults, we definitely recommend the 6 berth. It was comfortable without being cramped, although not particularly spacious. We used the centre berth as our dining area and the rear and upper berths for sleeping. The mattresses were comfortable, and the linen package included towels, bedsheets, comforters and blankets. We also brought sleeping bags for extra warmth.

The upper berth has very limited headroom, so you cannot sit upright. A ladder is provided, although hooking it up partly blocks the entrance and access to the front cabin. Curtains around the vehicle provide good privacy.

Storage is the biggest limitation. Do not bring large suitcases. 26 inch luggage is about the practical maximum, with two or possibly three pieces fitting under the centre table. The rear external compartment is mainly occupied by the chairs, table, snow chains, pipes and power cable.

The kitchen is well equipped with plates, bowls, cups, mugs and utensils. The fridge is small with a tiny freezer compartment, but was sufficient for around 2 kg of ice and roughly two days of food. The gas stove and sink are easy to use, while hot water takes some time to heat up.

For winter, the onboard diesel heater was very useful and does not consume much diesel overnight. The portable heater only works when connected to external power. We stayed on powered sites most nights and had no condensation issues. Snow chains were provided but not needed.

The 7.7 metre vehicle can be challenging if you are unfamiliar with large vehicles. The longer wheelbase also means a wider turning circle. The reversing camera helps, but having someone on the ground to guide you is recommended when manoeuvring in tight spaces. Parking in larger towns can also be difficult.

There is cruise control with a proximity sensor. Note that the authorised speed is 90 km/h, so be prepared to keep left and allow faster traffic to pass when safe and legal. The onboard GPS is usable but not the most updated, so we supplemented it with Google Maps.

Fuel economy was around 15 L/100 km. We travelled about 2,200 km and spent around NZ$500 on diesel, with prices ranging from NZ$2.20 to NZ$2.80 per litre depending on location. Self service stations are common and easy to use. There is also a separate road user charge of around NZ$9 per 100 km.

Campsites were easy to access, with straightforward power connections and clearly marked water, grey water and dumping facilities.

We took the Platinum Pack for $0 excess insurance and felt it was worthwhile for peace of mind. Our windscreen suffered a small crack, likely from stones thrown up by a heavy vehicle ahead. The pack also included portable chairs and a table. Note that Linen Drop and Go is only available after day 7 and requires prior arrangement.

Return was quick and seamless, with a straightforward inspection. There are large rubbish bins and shelves for departing travellers to leave usable items such as detergent, rubbish bags and leftover food.

We paid around NZ$4,400 for two weeks, excluding fuel and road user charges, and felt it was very good value. The 6 berth is a great choice for 4 adults. The main considerations are the vehicle size, limited luggage storage and upper berth headroom.

We would rent from Maui again. Although we may be getting a little too old for that upper berth!
