Very disappointing experience at Chatters Shawnessy. I booked an updo with Naomi that was supposed to take about an hour, but she finished in only 20 minutes. There were no curls or proper preparation, and within an hour the pins were falling out and the hairstyle was coming apart.

I called the salon and spoke with the manager, Danielle. She was dismissive and told me I had to come back to have it fixed, even though I explained I was on my way to an event and didn’t have time. I asked for a refund, but she refused.

Poor service and very disappointing customer service.

I initially went into Chatter’s Hair Salon one day to book an appointment for later that day. The woman at the front desk told me they had a few openings and said she could book me in, asking me to come back in 15–20 minutes. When I returned, I was told that they were actually fully booked. I felt that my own time had been completely wasted, especially since I had been told to come back.

A few weeks later, I decided to give the salon another chance and booked an appointment online. Unfortunately, the experience was just as disappointing. When I arrived, I was seated with an intermediate stylist. I had only asked for about an inch to be taken off my hair also to remove my split ends, along with a light blowout.

I was so disappointed with the service from the beginning. My hair was not washed before the cut, very little product was used, and when my hair was blow-dried, no product was applied to help maintain the style as well as my hair was still full of split ends.

As a result, my hair ended up looking essentially the EXACT same as when I arrived, and the blowout did not last the way I expected it to. Despite this, I was charged $90 for the service.

Overall, I am extremely disappointed with my experience and feel that the service did not reflect or add up to what I paid for. After both experiences, I will not be returning to this salon and unfortunately I cannot recommend it to others.

They have always done a great job with my hair. I love the girls. They treat me with respect and they understand how important my hair is to me.

I have been a loyal customer for at least 10 years. I have never had a bad experience with Chatters. Highly recommended.

Was going to Brandi at Chatters TD in Calgary. If you want to do highlights maybe find another place. Went to her twice and both times my tops were ruined with dye. In addition both times I had to go back for correction and spend an enormous amount of time, money and stress. The last time when she tried to fix the spots and color leakage it looked even worse vs before. And now I have to go back to another stylist to fix this. On top of that my hair feels very damaged.

It’s about time to show the correct location of your store because it has not been in the Lloydminster Mall for several years.

Was at Chatters in Spruce Grove. Stylist Kyra and Unfortunately, my hair did not meet my expectations at all. I had my long hair cut short today, although I appreciate the length, it lacks style. One side hangs unevenly, my bangs were barely trimmed and are now too thick, and the overall look is disorganized. I attempted to style it myself, but was unable to achieve a satisfactory result. I am extremely disappointed. Trying a different salon tomorrow to try to fix it . After visiting Elegance salon the stylist informed me my hair was cut uneven in yhe back and longer on one side than the other, Nicole fixed my hair beautifully. Stay away from chatters

Carol was my hairdresser. Polite, informative, honest and friendly. She discussed any possible issues with the style I choose before proceeding. Best haircut I have had in 10 years. I went from mid length to short shag. Lots of hair, thick. She texture it so it would work for me. She was fabulous. No pressure. Hanna the Manager was also great, very polite, accommodating, not pushing product on me. They both deserve a 10. I low income senior and I really hate paying for haircuts especially when the hairdresser ignores your concerns. Carol will definitely be my permanent hairdresser.

I got a colour correction done by Christy and I’m absolutely in love with it! I went dark after being blonde for 6 years and didn’t feel like myself anymore. Christy put the blonde back into my hair in such a refreshing way. I’ve gotten so many compliments on it! She walked me through everything that had to be done and gave realistic expectations which were much appreciated. So in love with it, just in time for the summer!

Michelle is a knowledgeable and awesome hairstylist, all appointments always on time and to top it off ,she’s very fast and so efficient!

Just a heads up.
When a brand-new client arrives 8 minutes early for their appointment, and gets yelled at from the back of the salon 'we're not open yet, we don't open until 10' -not a good first impression- I'll find another salon, to be sure.

My mom and I both saw Renee for a hair cut and style. She was so friendly and attentive, and we both left the salon feeling fabulous! Thank you so much to Renee for helping us look our best for our family photo shoot. Definitely recommend!

I have been a regular client at Chatters Nanaimo for about a year, visiting every two weeks for root touch-ups and grey blends. While the stylists I have seen have been talented and professional, the ongoing inconsistency with pricing has been incredibly frustrating.

The first time I had my roots done at this location, I was surprised to be charged an additional $50 for a blowout on top of my root service. This was completely new to me, as my previous stylists elsewhere had never charged extra for simply drying my hair. After that experience, I became extremely cautious. Whenever my stylist wanted to dry my hair “her way,” I would specifically ask whether I would be charged extra and would often request that the stylist inform the cashier of exactly what service had been performed so there wouldn’t be any confusion at checkout.

Unfortunately, any time I didn’t have the stylist walk me to the front desk, there always seemed to be a discrepancy in pricing. This caused me a great deal of anxiety, as I constantly felt I had to advocate for myself just to avoid unexpected charges. I even spoke to the manager on more than one occasion, and at one point she told me that the stylist had “maybe” been charging me incorrectly. From then on, I made sure I was crystal clear every single time I sat in the chair.

Because my greys are stubborn, I started going in for grey blends, which are advertised on the website at $32. I had been receiving this service regularly for about a year without issue. Since my previous stylist no longer works there, I booked with a new stylist who did an excellent job. She completed my grey blend, dried my hair, and I was charged the expected $32.

After travelling, I returned two weeks later for the exact same grey blend service and was shocked to be charged approximately $80. When I questioned the price, the stylist explained that the manager had instructed her to charge more because she had spent additional time blow-drying my hair. Apparently, because I “like my hair blow dried,” an extra charge of around $50 had been added.

My issue isn’t necessarily that prices change—it’s that these changes were never communicated to me beforehand. How about informing your client before the service is performed so they can decide whether they are comfortable with the additional cost? I was expecting to pay $32 and instead found myself paying close to $90. The manager wasn’t in the salon at the time for me to discuss the issue directly. The stylist herself was very good at what she does and seemed genuinely uncomfortable when she realized I was upset.

As a loyal client, I shouldn’t have to wonder what I’ll be charged every time I go to the front desk. Transparency and consistency are essential, and unfortunately, this ongoing confusion has left a very sour taste in my mouth. As someone who is still fairly new to Nanaimo, I had hoped to find a salon I could support long-term. Sadly, because of these repeated experiences, I don’t think I will be frequenting this location the way I once did.

I just wanted to send a huge rave to Courtney at Chatters! This is hands down the best cut and colour I’ve had in years. She was so cheerful and upbeat—it was truly a pleasure spending a couple of hours with her.
Her product recommendations were also spot-on. As someone who is 50+ with very fine hair, this new cut and the products she suggested have given me a level of confidence in my hair that I’ve honestly never had before.

Met with Star and immediately knew I made the right choice with her. She is extremely knowledgeable with all hair types and made me feel so welcomed. Her suggestions at maintaining care for my hair were simple and easy to follow. I wish I had started seeing her way before but I will now see her forever!

Got my eyebrows threaded. Great and efficient service!

I went to chatters just to get a trim. Firstly I had to wait 20 minutes in the waiting room for my appointment, which was OK. I get that they were busy. But when I finally saw a hairdresser, she asked me once how much I wanted it off she never reconfirmed mind you my hair was down to my butt. I asked for maybe one or 2 inches off. My hair is now at my chest. I can’t even put it in a braid. not only did she cut it way too short without reconfirming she cut it unevenly and crooked. my hair has never looked more of a mess. I am beyond mad.
