Just one thing to comment on which is they require a credit card with your full name spelled out for the deposit which UK banks generally don’t do as it is your initials and last name. I was not informed of this in advance. That is quite significant and many car companies do not require such a requirement.
Other than that, all was smooth and easy.

Achtung! Bucht woanders! 0 Sterne kann man leider nicht vergeben. 1 Stern ist leider zu viel.
Am Flughafen Cagliari spielen sie, gemäss eigenen Aussagen von ihren Kollegen dort, ein betrügerisches Spiel.
Sie lehnen willkürlich Dokumente ab und/oder Kreditkarten. Eine Rückerstattung des bezahlten Betrages kannst du natürlich vergessen.
30 Minuten später bei einer anderen Autovermietung ALLE Dokumente akzeptiert worden und Auto gemietet für den selben Preis plus zusätzlich Vollkaskoversicherung ohne Franchise und beide Fahrer registriert! Bei allem Verständnis das wir entgegenbringen möchten, ist es schon seltsam, dass die Dokumente bei anderen Autovermietungen anstandslos akzeptiert werden nur bei Autovia nicht. Haben angerufen, 45 Minuten in der Warteschlaufe! Ihr versaut den Leuten den Ferien und klaut deren Geld, weil ihr keine Rückerstattungen macht!
Nein, leider können wir sie nicht weiter empfehlen, im Gegenteil hoffen wir, dass nicht noch weitere Personen ihr Geld verlieren.

Sehr geehrter Kunde,
es tut uns leid, dass Sie in Cagliari kein Fahrzeug übernehmen konnten und dadurch einen so negativen Eindruck von unserem Service gewonnen haben.
Wir können jedoch nicht akzeptieren, dass Autovia als „betrügerisch“ bezeichnet wird oder dass uns vorgeworfen wird, Kundengelder zu „stehlen“. Die Ablehnung von Dokumenten oder Zahlungsmitteln erfolgt nicht willkürlich, sondern anhand der für die Fahrzeugübernahme vorgesehenen Anforderungen.
Für die Anmietung müssen die erforderlichen Dokumente im Original vorgelegt werden. Außerdem ist grundsätzlich eine physische Kreditkarte auf den Namen des Hauptmieters erforderlich, die über eine geeignete Kreditlinie für die Vorautorisierung der Kaution verfügt. Debit-, Prepaid- und virtuelle Karten sowie nicht geeignete Zahlungsmittel werden normalerweise nicht als Sicherheit akzeptiert.
Dass dieselben Dokumente oder eine Karte von einem anderen Vermieter akzeptiert wurden, bedeutet nicht automatisch, dass sie auch die Anforderungen von Autovia erfüllen. Jeder Vermieter legt seine eigenen Bedingungen für die Mietgarantie fest.
Wenn die Voraussetzungen für die Fahrzeugübernahme nicht erfüllt sind, kann das Fahrzeug nicht ausgehändigt werden und ein nicht erfolgter Mietantritt begründet nicht automatisch einen Anspruch auf Rückerstattung.
Wir bedauern außerdem die von Ihnen geschilderte lange Wartezeit am Telefon.

I booked a car for my holiday in…
I booked a car for my holiday in Sardinia in March and payed with my creditcard through a broker. The reservation was confirmed and payed.
As it turns out, when you need to pay for a deposit they will decline when your full name is not stated on the creditcard with which you have payed. At the counter I got a big ‘no’ and no support or service whatsoever. They have stated it in their terms of services, but I was never informed on this issue. While they knew my credit card credentials would not meet the requirements. I have never been contacted about this, while my
Creditcard details where known at Autovia and the broker as well.
They simply screwed me over. I had to rent another car for much more money since it is holiday season.
They will state that the reservation and the deposit are two entirely different things, but without a deposit you won’t get a car either. So I feel deceived and lied to.
And basically their answer is: ‘go f*** yourself’

we are sorry for the inconvenience you describe and that you had to find another vehicle at a higher cost.
We understand your frustration, but we cannot accept the statement that Autovia “screwed you over” or deliberately deceived you. To collect a vehicle, a physical credit card in the customer’s name is required, and the name shown on the card must match the identification documents. If the card only shows initials, abbreviations or an incomplete name that does not allow the cardholder to be clearly verified, it may be refused as a guarantee.
Payment for the booking and the guarantee required at the rental desk serve different purposes. The booking may be paid using payment methods accepted by the sales channel, while at collection the card must meet the requirements needed to place the security-deposit pre-authorisation.
This information is not only included in Autovia’s rental conditions. Broker platforms also state before collection that the card presented at the desk must be in the main driver’s name and show the driver’s full name, and that the vehicle cannot be released if the required conditions are not met.
We are nevertheless sorry if the explanations provided at the desk felt unhelpful or unclear.

Cancelling my fully pre-paid…
Cancelling my fully pre-paid reservation for June 28, when I had clearly indicated my flight number, and was supposed to pick up the car at Elmas, Cagliari airport ar 23:30, due to "no show" was utterly unacceptable. You must have checked my booking, where my flight number was indicated, and you could have seen that my flight was delayed for three hours! It landed about 2:00 in the morning instead of the scheduled time which was 22:50. The next morning, the person at the Autovia office told me that I had to contact Ryanair Carrental for a refund.

Dear Customer,
we are sorry that you were unable to collect the vehicle after such a significant flight delay. Providing the flight number allows the branch to monitor the arrival, but the reservation can only be held within the applicable grace period. For arrivals this late and outside opening hours, vehicle collection cannot be guaranteed without a direct agreement with the branch.
As the booking and payment were made through Ryanair Car Rental, any refund request must be handled by the broker.

All'arrivo problemi per il pagamento e la caparra(cc digitale no, bancomat si ma solo per certe cose) obbligandoci a fare quindi l assicurazione completa, anche perche dicono che l assicurazione fatta col broker non vale niente... Poco prima di 3 ore dal volo, per andare in aeroporto foriamo una gomma. Ci dobbiamo per forza fermare. Abbiamo la copertura assicurativa totale. Chiamiamo l assistenza e ci dicono che non sarebbero stati li prima di 1,5 ore con il carro attrezzi e che dovevamo per forza consegnare le chiavi di persona ma avremmo perso il volo. Decidiamo si cambiare la ruota ma nelle dotazione mancava il dado antifurto, quindi non potevamo cambiarla. Abbiamo lasciato li l auto e consegnato le chiavi in aeroporto al noleggio e ci hanno addebitato 250€ per il carro attrezzi. Mai più ci rivolgeremo a loro.

ci dispiace per quanto accaduto, soprattutto considerando il rischio di perdere il volo.
La carta di credito digitale non può essere utilizzata per il deposito cauzionale. La copertura acquistata tramite broker, inoltre, non sostituisce i requisiti di garanzia previsti da Autovia. L’eventuale copertura completa proposta al banco è facoltativa e può rappresentare un’eccezione per procedere con strumenti diversi.
La mancanza del dado antifurto, però, deve essere verificata, così come l’addebito di 250 € per il carro attrezzi. Se il cambio della ruota non è stato possibile per una dotazione mancante, è necessario ricostruire con attenzione quanto accaduto.
Può scrivere a customercare@autovia.it indicando il numero di contratto e allegando la documentazione dell’addebito.

Highly questionable and unacceptable rental practice
We booked the car using a fully valid Visa credit card. To be absolutely clear, this was not a debit card and not a virtual card.
Upon arrival, we were suddenly told that the same credit card was not acceptable. We were then required to pay an additional charge, otherwise we would have lost the rental and more than €500 already paid.
What makes this particularly difficult to understand is that the additional charge was successfully processed using the very same Visa card that had just been declared “invalid” for the rental.
This condition was not made sufficiently clear during the booking process and, from our perspective, appeared arbitrary and designed to leave the customer with no realistic choice at the rental desk. Faced with losing more than €500 and being left without a car, we felt pressured into paying.
We are frequent international travellers and have used this exact credit card for rental cars around the world without any previous issue.
In our view, this was a deeply misleading, unfair and unacceptable customer experience. We strongly advise potential customers to read every condition extremely carefully, request written confirmation of all card requirements in advance, and be prepared for unexpected charges at collection.
Based on our experience, we cannot recommend this company.

we are sorry for the situation and that you felt you had no real alternative at the desk.
A card may be accepted for a payment but still be unsuitable for the security-deposit pre-authorisation. These are two different transactions. The guarantee requires a physical credit card in the customer’s name, with sufficient availability and the necessary functions.
Additional protection may be offered as an exception to allow the rental when the card cannot support the required deposit. It is optional, but without an eligible card the branch cannot release the vehicle under the original conditions.
These requirements are stated in the rental conditions and booking voucher. We are sorry if they were not explained clearly enough at the desk.

They cancelled my booking after one hour although their TCs allows a grace period of 2 hour without mention that you need to provide flight details. Nevertheless, I checked in on their website directly a week before with all my information and yet no one even attempted to contact me. We had no other option but to make a new booking for triple the price of the first one. When questioned the lady made up several contradictory excuses with no valid reason for doing this. This happened at Cagliari airport. Terrible, unprofessional, irresponsible, inconsiderate and total scammers. In resume, my booking was cancelled without a valid reason only for me to pay for the exact same vehicle for triple the price I pre booked for. To me, this is a scam. Check EcoVia reviews and you’ll see I’m not the first.

we are sorry for what happened and for the unclear explanations you received at the desk.
We understand your anger, but we cannot accept being called “scammers”. The two-hour grace period at airport locations applies when the flight number has been included in the booking and is calculated from the scheduled arrival time, taking any flight delay into account. In other cases, the booking is guaranteed for one hour after the stated collection time.
Once the grace period has expired, the vehicle is no longer guaranteed. Any new booking is also priced according to current availability and rates, which may differ from the original booking.
