Musically Challenged, but successful in this program.

I joined Hear and Play because I have a variable schedule and difficult to schedule a standard music class. I have tried other "video" programs without success, so I was sceptical of this venture. However, now I am a change-minded person.

The coaches (Dr. Onye, Coach Brittney, and Coach Joanna) are impeccable coaches, mentors, advisors, and musicians. They are very honest and forthcoming about their methods and reviews of performances. So let me walk you through this process.

During the orientation, and afterwards upon request, you can be evaluated to be promoted or elevated to the next level class/course. Warning, it is not an evaluation of "you tried hard, so you can go ahead" but it is an honest review of your musicianship, knowledge, skills, and abilities including methods, chords, notes, playing up and down the scales with different keys and all. Then they will make a decision on your level for the courses, the nice thing is that all of the courses below your assigned level are open as well, so you can always audit a lower course for refreshing or solidifying a soft area. Again, I am not a music expert, so some of my terms may be generic or elementary, but I am leaps and bounds higher than I was when I started.

Then, when it comes to the classes, as a beginner, I had options Monday through Thursday, AM and PM classes, allowing for easy selection of virtual in-person classroom sessions for instruction and engagement. Now, again, I am caveman-level musician, so this is what I enjoyed, the program allows for you to go back and replay as much as you like the previous classes, so you can replay, slow down, rewind, and do it all over again to ensure you have the lessons taught caught.

Hear and Play gets the idea that music can be TAUGHT but to be a musician, one with a passion, desire, enjoyment, and creative engagement with instrumental sound, while it can be TAUGHT, this level has to be CAUGHT. So they have options, they have replays, they have open-mic nights and days, and they have 24/7 practice rooms where you can connect and engage others for near-peer encouragement and engagement.

You may be thinking that the price is hefty and you are not sure of the return on the investment, but I can tell you as a person who was caveman-level (have a stick will randomly beat on a tree to make noise and call it music), this experience has taken me to a level that I understand the piano, the variables of the keys, some of the scales, major and minor annotations and variables, I can play some (joyful noise), and I am encouraged that this Ole' Dog, can learn new tricks.

Take the challenge, it is doable, and don't let your past dictate your future, past failures and let downs are in the past, with Hear and Play, success is possible and you too can be looking back and talking about your success as well.

Do it, it is worth it!

I love the systematic manner in which the lessons are presented. Should be good for any student once they dedicate themselves to learning and practicing

The coaches keep us engaged. I like having access 24/7 to watch classes repeatedly as necessary.

This site has everything! It's my go-to for understanding music theory, with fantastic tutorials on playing from chord progressions, song lessons, and so much more. I absolutely love it and can't wait to become a lifetime member!

Hear and Play is a great place for all levels of musicians who are looking to learn about technique and theory in environment with other musicians who are seeking to sharpen their gift, talents and abilities to become more proficient and unlock potential they never knew they had. I really enjoyed learning from the coaches as well as being around other musicians in a place where I felt comfortable and free of judgment. I would recommend Hear and Play to anyone who has a passion for music and looking to learn a new instrument or seeking to take their music to a new level!

I am really enjoying the way your course is laid out. It is helping me to recall all those long ago lessons on the cords. While I am not that far into the lessons yet, I have been memorizing my cords and practicing them every chance I get. This is really a game changer for me.

It’s all the beginnings of piano playing that I missed

Hear and Play Music is a great program! I've been playing by sheet music for years, as well as playing some songs by ear; however, I knew that I was missing some foundational concepts that limited my playing ability. My desire when enrolling in the program was to learn to play by ear and transpose songs in another key.
The Hear and PIay Music program allowed me to gain a deeper understanding and connection with learning the keyboard, learning the scales, the correct fingering for scales, the Nashville numbering system and how to apply it, the circle of fifths, chromatic intervals, inversions, learning how to determine the melody of a song, adding harmony to the right hand, chords and triads, chord progression, adding the left hand bass notes, and so much more.
Due to the scheduled lectures, workshops, practice sessions, accountability groups, and available replays, this well-structured program definitely requires total commitment, available time for the sessions, and lots of practice time in order to gain lifelong applicable benefits that will increase your knowledge and understanding of the keyboard, as well as elevate your piano playing ability.

I loved the notes along the journey. I am currently working daily on the chords and trying to memorize them. It will take a hot minute but I'm so excited where this will all take me.
